115 to 120 MPG swing speed

Guys,

I am currently still looking for a new driver (Boot incedent) and have been suviving with a borrowed one for a while but it needs to return to its home as guys is back from OS.

I am awaiting TAX time to get a full set made up and measured but until then I am considering buying a used or ebay driver to get me through, maybe a Mac or used Calloway or similar

The machine at the local Drummond stated that my swing speed was between 115 and 120 mph, resulting in a 14 Deg launch and 250 ishlength. Unfortunately the guy was trying to sell me a $700 Calloway FTi (square one) in favour of all else but this was out of my range so I politely left.

What shaft do I need, I have been told both R, S & X not knowing nmuch about it I have always played with off the shelf regular shaft but I am told that stiffer my help me?

Any quick advise to get me through the next couple months and reputable on line stores ebay or the like.

Thanks in advance

Che

Watch as I make friends . . .

It doesn't matter... the clubhead is leading your hands through impact.

Just find one that "feels" good and go out and bash it. Pro V2 or Tour Concept, try 75 grams with that swing speed.

Enjoy

Get yourself onto a launchy (for a second opinion) somewhere other than Drummonds.

THere's some really first class superceded(unused) or ex-demo gear out there. A lot of it ends up on Ebay, but you can often do better by being a little creative.

You may be amazed at what you can get for your buck phoning around nearby greengrass outlets. Golf pros in the 40-60 age bracket are pure gold for the canny buyer. Many of them are shocking businessmen, and get themselves lumbered with too much hardware they can't sell. And then compound the error by hanging on to it way too long. They get desperate eventually.

As examples, in the$ 100-200 range you might find something like:

Superceded Mizuno M-01 (a work of art, should sell for much more)
Cobra 454 Comp - a far better club than the curent Cobras
Srixon 403 - at $200 expect a decent custom shaft in the deal.

And heaps of good clubs in less prestigious marques - Dunlop LoCo, Orlimar, McGregor, Tommy Armour, Wilson TD5.

Just on this, I wouldn't mind going in and getting my swing/launch etc measured, but on the site they mention they charge a $50 fee if you don't buy. Do they tend to enforce that?

What site is that?

So long as you remember you are undergoing a sales pitch rather than collecting swing data, go ahead.

115-120 mph swing and it only goes 250 ?? that doesn't add up

I don't plan on buying anything (yet), I just would like to know my swing speed and see if they can suggest what sort of degree head (8.5°, 10°?) I should be using, plus regular/stiff flex etc etc. If there's a better way I can find out for free then I'm all ears biggrin.gif

Mate - most of the time you get what you pay for.

Well, you guys were right biggrin.gif Went in and said I was looking for a driver (which I am), and could I get my swing etc measured. He said no probs and took me to the testing area. Tried a few swings with some Callaway club or other, then asked him again if he could measure my speed. He got out some crap little thing and stuck it behind me a bit in line with the downswing of the club. Tried a few swings:

The 1st time didn't work
The 2nd time it said 126mph
The 3rd it said 136mph

I don't think so biggrin.gif

That was the end of it. I told him I didn't think it was working and he just agreed with me and put it away, pff smile.gif Waste of time.

That said, I did try out a few clubs, and did come out liking the Cleveland Hibore quite a lot, closely followed by the Callaway 454. No idea about either of those so I'm off to do some review reading. He wanted $329 for a second hand Hibore though, and I've just seen them on Ebay brand new for $270 biggrin.gif

Didn't they have a vector launchie working?

I'm guessing he tried to use a SwingMate.

You can get ball speed instead of club head speed from behind...

He may have and a iron selected instead of a driver...

Swingmates suck the big one. You might as well point a hairdrier at it.

The swingmate thing is as useless as the old Bengstrom swing analyser. They really aren't close to being correct.

You can get a 983E or K for less than $200. I've the stock Fuji in stiff and have a similar swing speed 115-120. The only driver I've seen outperform my 983 on course has been the R510 and you could pick that up cheap.

Try finding an R510 these days without a flattened face...

I have tried so many different ones and I have ranged from 92 to 120 with the same swing...look I dont knoiw the ins and outs of them...so just a question...

are the latest ones the best?? or are earlier ones more accurate...

Get the Radar ones... all you care about is ball speed.

115-120 mph swing and it only goes 250 ?? that doesn't add up

Exactly - he is flipping it - so shaft selection doesn't make any major difference... cause the shaft ain't working as it should.

Look at the ball radar like Zelocity for the cheaper end and there are a few others also

A entry level Zelocity is AUS $499 or US $399, think it is call Pure Contact.
