I have ht TM woods and wedges but never the irons as our pro doesnt do TM gear...

he plays off 20 but has come down from 27 in short time...pretty big guy...he just wants to hit it straight and wants TM...

he also doesnt want to get fitted he doesnt have time for that and doesnt care too much (as I suggested fitting wink.gif )

sorry if this thread has been done before!!

IMO Taylor Made equipment represents the worst value for money on the market. And depreciates to zero residual value when it leaves the shop.

It's his money, but try to do him a favour.

that would be good for him then, considering he's looking on ebay, and most likely second hand

At that handicap level he'd be better buying Ping if he's going second hand. He'll pay more but he will get quality.

Ping and Titleist both hold value, and for good reason. Neither company slips dogs into the line up. Further consideration: Ping equipment wears very well, a bonus if you're looking at used.

but pings are so damn ugly wink.gif

I use the RAC LT irons (now superceded)

Best irons i have ever used IMO...look great, and soft feel

I only post here when the other site gets quiet...

the os are good oversized iron for beginners. But dont get them with graphite shafts- im fairly sure your freind will like them longer is the have stiff shafts.

Dunno what you've got against TM, but they'd hold their own against Ping's quite well. Especially considering he could pick up a set of RAC OS's brand new for around $500 on e-bay, and would struggle to find a set of Pings for that price secondhand.

Nike tour gear is alot different to the retail product, and not becuase of all that CG stuff. Hot faces!

i use the 300's and love them.

Opinions may vary. What I've got against TM is my belief that there's very good reasons why new TM can be had for the same price as second hand Ping.

FWIW I play an all SRX bag, so these are my opinions from observation, not an indicator of a personal bias based on my own love affair with a particualar name.

Quantity of TM clubs sold allow them to have a lower price. TM also have a much bigger range of product than Ping. The two companies go about their marketing in very different ways. Their is nothing Inferior with regards to TM products.

Never ceases to amaze me at how much Taylormade get bagged but the funny thing is a lot of people use there gear including me.I've used a lot of forged irons over the years but nothing compares to my current set TP combo;s pw-7 muscle back 6-3 cb fantastic feel excelent quality but each to there own , this is a forum and every one is entitled to an opinion.

Fair enough. By SRX, do you mean Srixon? If so, they make some great clubs too that can be had cheaply that should be on his 'to try' list.

I play Srixon because their drivers, fairways and hybrids are second to none (and because I get a big cost break). I'm very pleased with my 506 irons also. Sadly their top range ball is no more than adequate.

Any retail customer who doesn't have limitless depth to his pockets really should have a close look there too. The price gap is closing, but their recently superceded discount policy delivers awesome bang for the buck to the canny purchaser.

Had the opportunity last night to try a range of different irons at a demo day. TM R7 TP, Cleveland CG4 Tour, Ping i5, Mizuno MP60.

TM iron was very forgiving (particularly against the MP60's) and flew alot further than the others due to the stronger lofts. I'm not a fan of the graphics in the cavity, but the club head looked great at address.

I like the look of the Srixon I506 irons. Can anyone advise the best place to demo in the Brisbane / Gold Coast area?

Loft on the R7 TP irons is exactly the same as the Mizuno MP60's thoughout the whole set.

Loft of both the I5 and CG4 Tour are the same as the R7's in irons 3i-5i and then they are actually stronger in loft from 6i-PW so you are mistaken in thinking the R7tp have stonger lofts. They actually have the weakest loft equal with the Mizuno's of the 4 sets you mention.

Why does it have to be TM. smile.gif

woohoo my birthday today!! 14 y/o

Thanks for that Puttputt.

Reading comments on this forum, I had always assumed that TM had stronger lofts compared to other manufactures.

I light of this information, the R7 TP irons were the standout performer for me.

I've got the RAC TP irons...I absolutely love them. Swapped over from Ping i3's which I absolutely loathed.

I have recently bought some TM r7 TP irons. Absolutely awesome. People who dont have TM seem to hate them but people who own TM wouldnt give them up. I'd go with the people who use TM regularly.

I am a low offset, forged cavity with a thin topline kind of guy...

I like the tp combo from years ago and the Rac TP2 cavity.

Both should be very cheap on eBay
