have been in the market for a new set of clubs for a while, was a Mp30 user before and was going to get a set of mx25's from the states but on monday i decided to go into golfworks brissy and check out some bags and wedges im also LH and there is only a few racks so i wasnt expecting much, but there was a set of Macgregor Mactec m685 irons with rifle shafts and i asked the bloke if i could have a hit and all i can say is wow these irons are very pure,i had the 5 iron and was hitting them sweet, soft butter feel like the mizunos if not better, i then went for the 3 iron thinking i might thin a few shots but nope they were pure as well.. i must admit the back of the club is not the best looking but ive seen on the other forums that people are removing the sticker and they do look much better. just thought i would share as a lot of post asking about new clubs and these are ones you should try no matter your playing level...

Can you tell why Magregor's number one pin up boy (BADDS) uses a TaylorMade. That tells me they must be overrated.

Tell me more about your experiences with MacGregor!

norman never stopped playing macgreggor irons.

They said last week he was trialling clevo irons?
down and out…did ya get that? |
macgregor are better known for their irons especially their
forged irons in the 70s.
Their last couple of iron offerings are a bit like Volvo - ugly but good.
I don't know that Norman has much credibility when he talks about WITB.
Beware of cheap imitations - Especially from the US |

I play the full Macgregor set. Love them. The M685 Irons are great. Perfect launch angle for me. MACTEC NVG2 is a very good driver - a bit noisy but still good. The wedges are a bit average though.

On a similar note are adams irons a good buy? I am also looking for some new clubs and need advice
Adams make great quality and performing clubs albeit for a reasonable price. Their looks can be a personal choice. IMHO.

It's not about Macgregor, it's has something to do with Badds and his sister. Macgregor are fine forgings, exceptional quality.

c'mon postie, we are past that now.

they do make ugly clubs, but i just saw they've got cheap clubs on ebay in the us. last years highly regarded m565 for $220US. rough calculation mean they could be in my bag for under $400AU i dont wanna become a club ho, but ive got a bit of cash burning a hole in my pocket. does anyone play or recommend these?

my mate just bought these, so i'll give them a try too when
they come in..

I almost bought a set of these for $650 from a shop earlier this year. I only had a few swings with the 3 and 6 irons, but I liked the feel of them. And now I have a set on its way to my from the US, with a new diver, putter, hybrid and 3 wood. Does anybody else have this stupid problem like me that I see a bargain in the US and I have to add in another few clubs just because they are cheap? I'll be surprised if there isnt a fee this time when they pass through customs.
adding a few extra clubs helps in the long run when it comes to cost.. saves on shipping bundling more clubs.. so its not so stupid.. i do it too. I've brought in over a thousand dollars worth of clubs at a time without a customs fee..
my problem is that I have just bought a new 3 wood 2 months ago, I already have 3 hybrids and really dont need the one I bought and I have about 5 putters and I actually already like 2 and dont know why I bought another one. I do need the irons and the driver though. I figure I'll get my money back on ebay later on though. This will be the third time I have brought stuff from the US and I havent been stung the last 2 times. Maybe 3rd time lucky.
i think it is fairly random.. i play guitar, and bought 2 guitars from the US on different occasions, one got put in quarantine (since its made of mostly wood) and paid the cost of that, and the other didnt Ive been lucky lately not to get stung

Well I've definately found the replacement for my long irons. The M565 long irons are magic, easy to hit and so forgiving of poor swings. I'm not so sure I like the short irons as much, they feel a bit too clunky and are a bit on the heavy side, but they are also very easy to hit. I've only been down the range and hit a 100 balls, but I've never hit my long irons so well, with a nice medium high flight and plenty of distance. The clubs are good with golf pride tour velvet grips providing heaps of grip. I'm not a huge fan of the rifle shafts, but I had no problems with them, they certainly look good. The things I am not sold on are the clucnky looking clubs. The short irons look bulky and the long irons have a large bulbous mass protruding from the back of the head. They are also quite heavy, with a D4 swing weight, so they take quite a bit of effort to really hit hard, but I found you dont need to, a strong swing and the weight powers through the shot with ease.
Overall I am more than happy, especially seeing they cost less
than $400 delivered. They are a steal at that price and any
beginner or high marker looking for forgiveness should give them
a try. I can recommend all hackers trade in their mizunos and
play a club that can only help them.

yea norman was using the combo set in the open and he was hitting that 3 iron pretty damm good, i havent gone for the combo set as the forged m685s long irons are pretty easy to get up.
