Feedback on electric golf buggies

I am looking at replacing my wife's ageing powercaddy golf buggy. I have been looking a number of ebay items and was especially interested in any feedback on atomik or greenwell brands

I would suggest buying a name brand and buying local. The chinese import stuff is crap with no back up. Even the higher quality products have problems occasionally and need service and without a local repairer you are up the smelly creek without a means of propulsion. My MGI Navigator has been back twice for repairs, once under warranty and once at my expense. Both were electronics related.

One of the members at my club started importing cheap buggies from China but found on arrival that none of the electronics met Australian Standards and had to be replaced. During the redesign and replacement the electronic engineer who did the job (I played golf with him 3 weeks ago so this is fresh in my memory) found that they were of exceptionally poor quality and said that they weren't likely to last a year.

I think andya or andyone bought a electric buggy off ebay so possibly they will be able to help you.

Worst thing is that you can't get replacement parts & or service, for these cheaper units.
The major electric-buggy dealers can't help you out.
Fixing them is a night mare & expensive.

I bought an atomik remote control unit off ebay for $395 in early June and for the first month it was a ripper. However the roll pins that go through the axle and ultimately turn the wheels failed. I have now replaced all 4 with ss bolts (after drilling out the axle and putting in a thread) and it has run like a little champ since. I did have to contact atomik to purchase a new clutch as the roll pin had caused damage to 1. The stuff arrived within 3 days and was exactly what i had ordered. All up it has dragged my clubs around for about 15 rounds of golf and I've spent a couple of hours in the workshop on it. I would cautiously recommend them but advise you to change the roll pins immediately.

Couldn't agree more...worked for a company at one stage who sold some of the chinese imports and can't remember one that lasted more than 3 months (they almost always came back for a refund). One had even burnt a customers "cutom made" golf bag when it short circuited.

The old saying "you get what you pay for" comes to mind.

I purchased a remote model via e-bay about 4 Months ago, paid $270 + $50 postage from a company in Queensland, it works well & I haven’t had any trouble with it yet…touch wood.

I had a Chinese one and ended up selling it as it was useless on any serious hills and very heavy.

MGI (based in Melbourne) have some zero interest plans going so I bought one using a plan and the quality is excellent.

I bought an MGI model for my father 3 years ago.
He plays weekly and has not had a problem with it in the 3 years.

don't use one but am very familar with Walk on Wheels.

The EzyPlay Cadet is a very good product

MGI also make a very good product

Buying local is so much easier. Especially when dealing with warranty issues.

If you're a fat bastard, hopelessly unfit, a chain smoker or have a medical condition that means you're physically incapable of dragging a buggy behind you or lugging a stand bag, then by all means buy an electric one. Otherwise, why?

... and I thought this forum was anonymous - how did you recognise me?? ph34r.gif

thanks for the comments folks - I guess I'll have to stump up with a bit more $$ and go with a known quality brand!!

i got one online too...cost me about $200...which was a pretty good deal...

worked really well in the beginning...but...after about 6 months of use the axle broke...i had to get a replacement for it from the seller...who was very helpful...

wouldnt recommend it...mgi seems to have the best reputation and service still...i did learn alot from pully the buggy apart and putting it back again thou!

I have owned an MGI for 2 years now. Just a basic model as I wanted to be able to move it without battery power if necessary. Have had no problems with it at all.

If you have a problem I understand the MGI technician will come to your club and fix it on site. Just leave it with your Pro. (A good reason to buy it off your Club Pro in the first pklace).

And don't knock the electric buggy until you've tried it. Nothing beats walking down the fairway while your bag motors alongside you. Just like having a caddy... I guess.

walk on wheels are the way to go biggrin.gif good product and service...many memebers where i work have no probs at all with them

To anyone that is in the process of looking for an electric golf buggy to buy – a word of warning about the MGI brand. MGI have spent a considerable amount of time and money marketing their products in the last couple of years. Consequently you will see alot of players out there with MGI buggies however be warned – the quality of their product does not match their marketing prowess. I purchased a MGI buggy 3 years ago, in that time – both rear wheels have been replaced, the starter motor twice, the on off switch once and the battery twice – all of this outside of the warranty period. There is a reason they have such a good service plan in place – they need it because their product is substandard.

I have now given up on the MGI buggy altogether – having just been told that the battery is gone again and will cost another $200 to replace. I am the 5th person in my golf club to have problems with their MGI buggy in the last 6 months.

Here’s what we are doing…...We’re buying the “EagleHawk Compac”. Our pro shop has stocked one for the last 6 months and because my buggy has broken down so many times over that period I have been using the EagleHawk Compac. It’s great! It’s sturdier, more powerful, and much much cheaper.

So to anyone looking for a buggy – try the EagleHawk Compac – don’t waste your money on the MGI.

Never seen them promote their products on ISG so they can’t be that good at marketing.

:)

My MGI buggy has given no problems in the 2 years owned. Big advantages are Australian coy with local repair outlets.

Hi guys

MGI problem!!! Now chinese. They claim they assemble them here but im not 2 sure.

Really have a good look at them and then have a good look at other chinese buggies, do you see what i see, there the same.

But they still have the hide to charge us the same price as if they were built here. Honestly ask your golf pro he has seen the emails, faxes etc. Eagle compact MMMMM be careful, very powerful though but reliability mmm as i said be careful, you will see.

Also i have heard threw the grape vine about batteries they are only going to get more expensive so make sure your buggy purchase is easy on batteries.

As they say you get what you pay!!!!

Hi Guys
I have a T2T electric which i bought on e-bay for $135 they retail for $850 and the factory is in Carrum Downs in Melbourne had it for about 12 months and it hasn’t missed a beat it’s basic & the only thing is on very hilly courses e.g. Olinda you have to walk behind it to make sure it doesn’t tip over backwards.

Hi all
I came across this thread while googleing to replace my electric Atomik electric buggy, and just want to warn everyone.. do NOT buy the Atomik buggy! It’s a piece of chinese crap! I have done many small repairs on mine just to keep it going. They only give three months wty, and there’s a good reason for that! you’d be lucky to get 12 months out of it. I’ve had mine for 18 months now, and as I said, repaired it quite a few times, but anyone who is not technically capable would not have been able to do that. But now it’s finally died in a cloud of smoke. I don’t know anyone who has bought one of these who has not had some problem with it. Be warned!

and here’s another thread that’s relevant- http://tinyurl.com/5s4vw4

Get a smoothy

no hassle in having to recharge

I have had 3 mates who have electric buggies and they have had all sorts of problems with them…..3 different brands also

the batteries die after a while also…they are heavy to pack also

not a fan of them at all

so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead

My atomik is great, it’s just like all Chinese stuff, some is great, some is average, some is rubbish. Their Quality control will get better as the poor manufacturers drop off, just like Japan, and Korea, not to mention the UK, Germany, the USA, Australia the list goes on it’s a part of becoming industrialised.

Don’t be so fast to put them down, they will surprise you, and at a price that will be nice…
