Can i just ask what 'lie angles' are and what are the benefits of getting them checked and adjusted, and also does it benefit all golfers to get them checked?

Take a look at www.preceptgolf.com. Go to products and then the science of golf clubs. The first page goes through the lie angle and its effect. Also the rest of the article is good too.

Thanks for that, very informative. But just to get one thing straight, all clubs are produced with a standard lie angle and they bend over time? or are there clubs produced with upright and flat lie angles to suit the golfer?

You can generally order clubs with a custom lie angle, all manufacturers have a "standard" which is usually only standard to them... :s

Manufactureres may vary by a couple of degrees in the manufacturing process too!

generally the best bet is to be fitted by a good club fitter and then order the clubs as close as possible to what they reccomend, when you get them have the club maker check them and adjust as required.

Better still, buy the clubs from the club maker that way you can be sure that you are getting the exact specs you require.

Some people may scoff at component club brand names but many of them are as good if not better than name brand counterparts, and definatly better in terms of custom options available to fit you.

You can buy name brand clubs and then have them adjusted to suit (I do) but it is a more expensive option, normally the stock shafts are garbage and hit the bin straight away.

So, lie angles are something that i shouldn't worry about (i'm going to be optimistic and say...) until i improve and am in need of better clubs?

No No No, you should worry about it!

See a clubfitter and get some clubs made up, if you want something inexpensive you should be able to get something for under $700 for something reasonably halfway decent.

You might find that only small adjustments need to be made as you progress, in any case go and see a clubfitter and get their reccomendation and make a call from there.

Thanks, i'll definetly consider seeing a club-fitter, when i have some money that is.

G20, once a year is about right to get your clubs checked for loft/lie.
That allows for any changes you've made in your swing or for the
thousands of hard rocks hit at the driving-range off the mats. wink.gif

Anyone knows a good club fitter that will check and adjust the lie angles for irons etc. around Sydney North Ryde area?

What is the price?

There’s a place in Concord called the Golf Lab maybe give them a call.

I’ve never used them so don’t know the cost.
