Went looking for a new driver the sarvo, went into one shop where they had ex-demo drivers from the USA for cheap (Callaway Big Berthas), picked up one and it had an Aldilla tour shaft in it 10 degree loft for $599 but he said he would give it to me for $479, what do you guys reckon of the deal? Its the brand new style Big Bertha Driver. Ive got no experience in driver selection so im kind of stuck here.

I'll be the first to jump in and say "get properly fitted" smile.gif

Also that seems like a lot for an ex demo club..

Yeah thats way too much, <Post edited>

You could buy one from the US from a large reputable ebay seller for half that price.

Have to agree, it does seem a bit too much...

(Good advice from Tristan about getting fitted, especially for the driver... )

So you reckon to much even for a club with an Aldilla shaft? He reckons the shafts are worth $200 new.

He reckons, does he...?

Too much mate.

I got a brand new TM driver for $300, and I wouldn't even pay that much again (for a non-fitted, OEM club with a crappy shaft)

Hmm, thanks for your help, looks like ill be doing more searching. Where did you pick that deal up from Tristan?

Big Bertha drivers with Aldila shaft -

"Buy It Now" prices range from US$150-180. Take into account $20-$20 shipping, and it's still half the price you mentioned above ...

Shipping will be anything from $30-$50, but you are still miles ahead.

Go for the 454, bring it back and take it to a club fitter to check out.

The shaft was that much when it was released a few years ago. Now I would say its a bit less than half that

Yep, too much. I picked up a TM 580XD ex demo for 200 last year, new shaft as well, though not a great shaft.

Far out, im so glad i didnt buy it. The driver was a 454cc if thats what you are talking about Virge but theres no way im buying it now.

Beware of cheap imitations - Especially from the US

GolfBox, East Perth (WA). Cheaper than what you were quoted, yes, but still not fitted correctly - they should have at least given me more loft. But anyway, good choice on not getting 454 for that much dosh.

Keep going up.

Most US based Etraders insist on Fedex or other express courier. So you are looking at a something around $60 US for a standard package.

But... Anything over 42 inches in length attracts substantial cost penalties from both Fedex and US postal.

I'd be interested to hear if anybody knows a way around this problem, but my research tells me that despite the low purchase prices available, anything shafted (or shafts themselves) can not be got to Aust cost effectively.

I've had a couple of drivers delivered from the US off ebay via USPS
with no problems. Around US$35 delivery. Two I needed to pick up from
customs at the airport (no fees or anything), one made it to the local PO.

Getting harder to find US ebayers using USPS. Try the usernames:

joeleighs, thegolfhabit, 4-glad, tylerjoker, theback9golfco, dylanjrs,
golfmartonline, mrgolfshop

Disclaimer: I've only had dealing with the first 2 of these users, but they
all will ship to OZ using USPS.

+1 on "joeleighs" (www.3balls.com). Great service.

As above for joeleighs.

I just picked up my brand new BB 454 today - was a custom order from the US through Callaway Australia (LH, 11deg, Grafalloy ProLaunch 75g @ 44") cause i didnt want to take the risk of gettin f*&%ed over with warrenty..

Cost me $399 - so $475 for an ex-demo is a bit high smile.gif

454 is probably going to be phased out in 6 months or so my callaway contact says...

so prices will drop soon anyway

sigs are back – YAY
