HI Looking to buy a stand bag, currently use a pull buggy and cart bag. Need a light weight bag to carry a few sleeves of balls, wet weather gear and use when travelling Any suggestions???

The Callaway, Ogio and Cobra stand bags (plus probably some other brands as well that I haven't seen in the flash) are all very light and have more than enough pockets for your stated needs. Stand bags can also travel on the pull buggy when required, so they're nice and versatile.

In have Taylormade stand bag it has plenty of pockets and i picked it up from the house of golf a while ago really cheap, the only thing that annyoys me is because i have a pull buggy with a wide support my stand bag always falls to one side and it is a bit short for the buggy itself ( it has nothing to with the bag it is awsome).

I have a Hippo stand bag and I got it for less than $90 brand new at Bob's Discount Golf. It's great, has enough pockets and light enough to carry. I use it without a buggy if I'm only playing 9 holes. I had the same issue with corbin in regards to pull buggy where it tends to fall on one side. Nothing to do with the bag, the bag itself is great. One solution is re-arrange your clubs to accomodate falling on the side. Another is strap the bag to the buggy.

I use a Mizuno Twister which I picked up for less than $200 from Golf Works recently. Comfy straps, enough pockets and a removable thing if you aren't going to be utilising all the pockets. I have used it with a seat buggy and it sits on it with no problems. Golf Works (Burwood) also had the Ogio Grom there which is supposed to be a pretty decent bag... Would be surprised if it is still there but worth giving them a call if you are in Melbourne.

I also use the TM stand bag. It carrys plenty of balls, wet weather gear, shoes and a couple of drinks in the cooler section. Heaps of storage. I have a cheap bagboy buggy and don't have any problems with the bag coming off.

What are they like if you walk 18 with them with no buggy, just carrying?

Its like how my wife described being 9 months pregnant but in this case you have to walk 6k, only here the baby would be growing out of your back. Stand bags are great for 9 but knock the stuffing out of you for 18. I carry a cloth sports belt in my bag so I can latch it onto a rental pushie if I have to... best $2.99 I ever spent.

I've been carrying my bag for over 20 years and I have no problem whatsoever playing 36 holes or more in a day. I'm no superhuman fitness freak either, I'm a big strong bloke but I'm probably 20kg's overweight and I smoke like a chimney so a person of average fitness should find no problems carrying a bag for 18. If it's a very hot day I'll use a buggy, but over the last summer I only used it a few times and that's about average. My 14 year old son carries his clubs in one of my old carry bags and he never has any trouble with it, he's big for his age and doesn't seem overly fit but he has no trouble, he whinges about everything as a rule but never complains about being tired so I reckon he must be doing it easy. Maybe start out by carrying your bag only when you are playing 9 holes and after a while use it on easy walking courses until you get used to it and your fitness/strength is built up. Also remember that the adjustment straps etc for the carrying strap/harness are there for a reason, find what is comfortable to you by trial and error, also pay attention to the balance of your bag, if you put everything you own in the bottom pockets it tends to make the bag feel heavier than it is. Only carry what you really need for a round, here's what's in my bag,
* 6 new balls I only carry my umbrella, wet weather gear and bag rain cover if I think it's going to rain, sometimes after nine I'll duck in to the carpark and grab my wet weather gear out of the car if the weather takes a nasty turn. If you are toting around 2 dozen balls, a jumper, spare shoes, three towels, your wet weather gear and 450 tees then ditch as much as you can, it makes it a lot easier!

Do Bite still make bags? My Bite stand bag is light and as functional as one could hope for. Got it for less than $50 new off eBay too. My home course is pretty steep in places and rather than join the old farts with their motorised buggies I choose to carry. Keep it simple and focus on carrying only what you need out on the course. Looking at the weekend forecast, the carry bag also allows you to carry an umbrella and still have a hand free to do other stuff.

Most newer bags have a "W" style strap that you wear over both shoulders like a backpack, so they're a breeze to lump around all day.

The new Ogio bags seem to take the double straps a bit further,
theres a couple new models I saw at The Golf Warehouse.

One thing to consider when using stand bags (mines a Wilson) is the requirement to also carry a sand bucket by hand. Its a small thing, but I find it a pain to have to put it down, pick it up X number of times in a round.

I practically allways carry my clubs and find it no problem to do so. Make the bag as light as possible, mine is the opposite, I have a whole roll of lead tape about 2 dozen balls waterproofs, two towels and all of my clubs have heaps of lead tape on them. I don't know why I carry so much crap in my bag but I do, every once and a while I'll clean out my bag and it is definatly easier to carry. I'm very unfit, I need to lose 25kg or so (I'm a little over 100kg) and even still it is not too much hassle.

How tall are you? 75kg (if that's what you're aiming for)
would be "heroin chic" for most blokes of average
height.

Make sure you get a double shoulder strap like that mentioned above and one that has plenty of pockets.
You don't have to buy the most expensive one, I got a Dunlop
one in the UK where virtually everyone has them (they don't
get much exercise over there remember

5 foot nine or ten, I want to be about 75-80kx and I'm 102kg at the moment.
So the answer is, yes I am a short ass

Exactly why I started carrying over my shoulders.

Holy chit some of you carry a lot of crap. I have an Izzo stand bag that my wife bought me when we were dating. I can walk 36 holes and feel for the most part, just fine. It has a lot of room in it. Carry my clubs, 2-3 sleeves of golf balls + 3-4 shaggers, a bag 0 tees, a permenate marker, a bottle or two of water/Gatorade, some snacks, a long sleeved shirt or fall coat, and that is it. Keeps it nice and light.

I got my 'Sandman' bottle for $4 on clearance at Rebel Sport. Either that or stick a small container in one of the outer pockets.
