Tour Shafts

Looking at a club on ebay that has a ‘tour shaft’. What’s that mean? Is that a stiff one?

Ad says - Shaft is Super strong, super light, Mitsubishi Rayon. Valued at well over $200

it means it's a fancy named stiff shaft that makes a difference to a tour players game but little difference to us mere mortals.

so can us mere mortals wield a club with such a shaft or should we pass it by?

depends on your swing.

If my swing is set up for a stiff shaft, will this shaft be OK? I know it's not as exact as a lot of people on this site like to be, but in general terms, if I'm looking for a stiff shafted club, will this suit?

i guess so, can't see a reason why not

Feel free to buy this club if you are looking for a stiff shaft, BUT don't expect to pick a difference between a standard Stiff shaft and a tour stiff shaft.

down and out…did ya get that?

That's what I wanted to hear. I just didn't want to get it if it was going to be a bearch to hit. I'm basically just after a stiff shaft so wanted to know this was basically what this meant.

Cheers.

I'm sorry but I don't know if I've heard so much crap in all of my life.

A shaft will suit you if it suits you a $200 shaft might make all the difference in the world to someone on a 14 handicap who has currently got a poorly suited shaft in their club.

However, that $200 shaft will only make a difference if it suits the player in question.

The answer at the end of the day... get someone who knows what they are doing to fit you for the correct shaft.

You might find the shaft to suit you is a $140 shaft or it might be a $1300 shaft (Matrix Ozik perhaps smile.gif )

Just get fitted for the right shaft before you spend any money.

HISPL - I agree, really Gooka should get fitted. But that was not the question. I think both Thommo and myself conveyed the feeling that buying a shaft because it is "TOUR" is not going to make it any better, but it is not necessarily worse either. It is just another shaft that may or may not suit the golfer.

Did not want to get into the discussion about why gooka wants a stiff shaft, or what actaully constitutes a stiff shaft.

down and out…did ya get that?

I'm surprised it took as long is it did before someone preaching fitting posting something to the effect.

I dont' think any post regarding equipment goes by without getting turned into: You must get fitted.

Although I agree that everyone needs to be fitted with the correct equipment, some people don't take the game that serriously and just want some basic advise on what is best for them. And some people enjoy trying different gear until they find the club that works. It is half the fun for alot of players. How else did the term Club Hoe come about.

It would be nice to see the question being asked, answered without all the fitting bashing that goes on.

Tour usually means stiffer tip and lower launch. Graf Blue being the example.

For better strikers that means better trajectory and lower spin. For mid cappers - it means about 15 yards less.

another option is to go REG TOUR instead of STIFF TOUR...

That's got you thinking doesn't it...

So for a chopper like myself you'd recommend a standard stiff over a tour stiff?

gooka...honestly we can not know without you being fitted properly.

"Stiff" varies from brand to brand, shaft line to shaft line. There are no industry standards. It is a little bit hit and miss unless you get fitted. (don't want this to turn into a fitting debate, but that is the truth)

Other than that, depending on how much spare funding you have, buy it, try it...and if it don't work fro you then sell it.

Which is pretty much what posts #2 through #8 said (albeit in fewer words). Which bits specifically did you consider to be crap and how do they differ from your assertions above?

Does anyone provide a service whereby you can get 'fitted' to find out the shaft, loft etc that's good for you, but you don't have to buy it from them? Say you pay them a few $ to get the info, then you can take the info with you and shop on-line...ebay etc?

Virge,

The Graf Blue "Tour" shaft is actually a softer tip shaft than the grafalloy blue.

Tour shafts are generally heavier (80+ grams), stiffer butt sections, lower torque.

They typically do more harm than good to the general golfer.

I do that smile.gif. I'll fit you, you pay me for the fitting and I'll give you the specs. No worries at all.

But...surely if I buy the same gear that Tiger uses then I will be just as good?

How much do you charge for a fitting session, and is it any cheaper if I decided to buy clubs from you, or get my current ones reshafted/adjusted by you.

if yo take those shafts out RobD, I'd buy them back off you.

My bad.

It ain't about the clubs - you have to wear the saem clothes as Tiger to play as good as he does...

It is all about the clothes... Just ask Jesper !
