Henry-Griffitts Clubs?

Just had my initial lesson with Steve Darmody the head pro at Sanctuary Cove QLD. I found Steve to be great for me, easy to understand and helped a lot. But along with the lesson was a club fitting of which I requested but I was really pushed to Henry-Griffitts clubs. The clubs are butt ugly and from what I've heard dear as posion. What is the perception of these clubs and is it worth buying them to keep all my coaching and club fitting in the one area?
Thanx

A friend of mine did the deal a couple of years ago with a HG
teacher. Yes they are pushed (Like any item), but just say no.
Expensive, too right, but they are tailored. To me, they are also ugly and bulky, but it all comes down to how you hit the ball with any club. Most golfers will pay anything just to improve their golf by a shot, so it all comes down to which club suits you the best.

Henry Griffits are about the most overpriced poorly fitted clubs a person could buy . If you like paying 100 bucks for a 20 dollar shaft go for it.
I have been through the Henry Griffitts experience. Find a real Clubfitter and Get fitted by an expert .

and make you a hitter ... run Quickly... |

Maybe a bit harsh but I would have to agree...

I believe he knows what he's doing with the fitting just the push to the HG's

Most HG fitters don't know what they are doing.

Ask Virge about them - can't remember what thread it was but he was saying something about the HG clubs not even being trimmed properly before assembly.

Most branded clubs offer custom fitting these days. And they usually have superior quality fit & finish to HG clubs. I know where my $ would go...

no resale value...
|
|
Yes that was my thought as well

get your clubs somewhere else (whether it be OEMs or components) and continue your lessons with the pro... u'll save heaps that way...

There goes his commission!

What? They might be poor clubmakers/fitters - I wouldn't know because I have no experience with HG, but what did you expect them to do? They fitted you with a set of clubs based on your swing at the time . What did you want them to do???

there's more than one way to fit a club.
|
|
That didn't answer my question. Do you fit a club based on the golfer's swing (including all its foibles), or on what that golfer might swing like in 12 months time?
|
|
Depends a lot on the golfer and their goals

People who disagree with that are just silly Mau. You are spot
on.

Seriously though my first choice was ping g5 so can you get fitted properly with there oem components and fitting system?

I was fitted to my clubs after an hour of hitting balls getting my swing perfect not the one i owned. When i got my clubs i could not hit them for a month they just did not suit me. I had to learn some pretty ordinary compensations just to use them.
If i could highlight a moment in my golfing life that i would
change it would start at this point.

I believe that was my post. I recently cut down the shafts on a set of HG's and found that each shaft had no tip trimming at all. My view was that this was due to poor clubmaking skills rather than a deliberate decision to modify the frequency slope. Every set of HG's I have seen has been both too long and has too upright a lie angle for the 'fitted' golfer. They are without a doubt the most overpriced and poorly fitted 'custom' clubs I have come across. Those golfers who claim 20 extra yards, etc after being fitted with them are being fooled. The reason for distance gain is the extra long shafts and, in some cases, reduced lofts. Their 5 iron is effectively a 3 iron. I wouldn't touch them. Mick

Unfortunately, I have to agree with most here. I had HG clubs for 6 yrs and didn't know any better until last year with my new Mizunos. Basically now I'm about 5-6 shots better off per round and that cannot all be attributed to technology advances.

Hi, First post here, I use a set of HG's that I just basicaly took from my old man. They were good to start with as they were much better than my previous set but reading this thread perhaps I should try something else as my game is not improving much over the last 5 years. I have jsut started playing socially every week and still shooting in the hi 90's. Shafts are very long and can hit a 5 Iron about 180m but some of the Irons I just can't hit at all and don't use them.
