Titleist 735CM's

I'm looking to buy a set of 735CM's at the moment and just wanted to get some opinons on what people thought of them. I'm currently using a set of 690CB's with DGR300 shafts in them. I played nine holes on the weekend with the 735's (with S300's) and found them to be pretty good. a little more forgiving than the 690's and a little more controllable for someone that plays at my level. I think the stiffer shafts in the 735's have given me a little more control with the club. Want to make the leap but want to get a few opinons about it first. Thanks Benny

Benny, I can't help you from personal experience but I was at my club on Saturday and was having a word to one of the young kids, about 17 years old. He was telling me that he recently changed to the 735s and had rounds of 2 under and 1 under playing off 7 and is now off 4. He raved about them if that helps.

Yeah I kinda did the same thing. I had a bad half round on saturday and then switched to the new irons and had a go with them and even though I only hit like 4 of them they did feel better than the 690's. I'm dead keen to get a set!

Very nice sticks. I used to have 10yo Pings, but these 735s are much more accurate distance-wise. The trajectory is very good as well. The short irons spin like hell too. However, if you miss the sweetspot, you will know about it, particularly with the standard S300 shafts and range balls. I ended up having mine reshafted with graphite Rifle shafts because I've been having terrible wrist and elbow problems (as if I'd taken a full swing and caught a tree root). I still get the feel and accuracy, just no pain! Now that I've said all that, if I had my time over again, I'd probably go for custom-fitted-and-built clubs - considering the amount of money you need to spend on these Titleist irons.

Best piece of advice yet. A cheaper properly custom fitted set will outperform any high priced off-the-shelf set everytime. You are far better spending your money on fitting than overpriced Titleists, IMO. Mick

are the 735s gonna come down in prices soon???

Maybe Mau -695CM's are due on in March (along with the CB's), however I'm considering the 775CB's with the larger-headed longer irons and smaller-headed short irons (either them, or buying G5 irons in 3-5 iron and keeping my S59's).

the funny thing here is that the 735s are CHEAPER than the
690.cbs... FWIW - I still think the 704s pick of the bunch...
|
|
Agree -tried the 735s - wasn't that impressed. The Titleist
sponsored pro suggested I try the 704s - superb. The local pro
said he had 704s went to 690s and wishes he could afford to go
back to 704s. Having used blades for most of my life, I found the
transition to the 704s very easy and nothing like the chunky
clunky feel of other brand cavity backs that will remain
nameless.

Been playing with them since they came out in oz and what can I say, great looking at address and feel really great. I'm an ex low marker from years back used to playing with blades and these give me just what I need after many years out of the game and will still stay with me as the scores start dropping. For myself the minimal offset and clean top line give me the confidence I need at address, I tried them against the TaylorMade RAC TP and the 690.CB and they won me over. Most of all though, try different clubs and then get them fitted.

Thanks for all the advice guys. My little brother has a set of 704's so I might try them. He was even going to get another set of something else so I might have a round with them and see what i think about them. I am going to try and keep my 690's so I can go back to them as they are a beautiful club that I really like. I just think that I need something a little more forgiving at the moment. My goal is to go from 16 to 12ish by the end of the year.

mate the 704's will help that out considerably. i've gone
from mid 80's to mid 70's with these babies.
|
|
Yeah they are doing that for my little brother at the moment. They are just hard to find second hand.
|
|
Benny, I'd consider the 804's for your current handicap
level (assuming you swing like a 16 handicapper), if you were
around 10 the 704's would be pretty good. That is just IMHO
and in fact the recommendation my club pro gives and he's a
Titliest fitter (not to mention sponsored by them too)

Where are you Benny_LGC? I know where there's a set of second hand 704s.

Hey Benny_LGC, If you're still looking at a second hand Titleist 704 CB, there's one listed on eBay at the moment. Saying that, I personally wouldn't get a club without hitting them first. I recently got a second hand set of 690 CBs a few weeks ago from Bob's Discount Golf and agree that they are beautiful clubs. Before getting a different set of clubs, check your swing first and the condition of your body. I had the shanks last week and couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. I went to the driving range and did some drills, now I'm swinging better. I figured the problem was in my head. I'm sure a lot of you out there can relate to this.

You bought those 690 CB's?
|
|
Easy, everything is as beautiful as the beholder believes.
