How To Hit Your Driver 24.5 Yards Further

Folks,

Many of you have likely already seen this Crossfield vid (cos he makes good vids), but I think this one is particularly pertinent for new club ho’s (aren’t we all??):
How it hit your driver 24.5 yards further

I myself have bought an entire brand new set last year only to replace everything in it over the last six months, so I’m not saying I’m any different or better when it comes to this. But what Mark says is so true. Yes, a new G25 driver or TM R1 or Nike Covert or Razr Fit Extreme or 913 D2 (I bought this one as soon as it came out), or whatever floats your boat, is an awesome prospect, particularly when you can find bargains if you hunt around (both online and in bricks&mortar stores), but definitely should consider taking that $300 or so and spending it on lessons with a good pro. Most of us know this though…right? Preaching to converted here, right? Go team:). But who am I kidding – if I had more dough I’m sure I’d be buying more clubs…even if just for curiosities sake… .

Tramps like us, baby we were born to run.

I really need a extra 24.6 so I’ll have to wait :(

Fuzzy, you’ll also see in Crossfield’s posts on FB that a lot of the pros aren’t gaming a complete “latest” bag. A lot of ‘old favourites’ being used. The “bigger, deeper, longer” mantra is just marketing shyte.

Tell me about it mate. Marketing is what marketing is – TM must have a serious marketing machine at their disposal. Not saying all TM gear is shithouse at all, but when you’re marketing is as bombastic as theirs is, on some level it inevitably works to discredit you in the eyes of the discerning buyer… . Interesting that we’re now (finally) seeing Nike ad placements in the local print rags (Golf Australia, at least, which I rate as the best golf mag here). About time they advertised their products. Nothing wrong with (most) Nike clubs I reckon.
Is it Steve Stricker who’s still using the 909 driver? Nothing wrong with old faithfuls:).

Spot on Fuzzy. Crossfield recently also mentioned the Cobra marketing gimicks (eg: teh colour choices for the drivers).

It makes you wonder, if the gear was really that good, would they need to bother with this extra stuff.

I don’t mind most marketing junk, I can look through most of it, which i’m sure a lot of people can. What annoys me with Taylormade is the dishonesty behind their claims. This 7 iron (even though it’s delofted and an inch longer) can go 20 extra yards than other 7 irons. Well yes – but that’s because it’s a 6 iron with a 7 on it.

Some people do fall for the marketing traps though. There’s a guy I play with from time to time who’s off either scratch or 1 and is always telling me statistics of these new irons coming out that he’s getting. Telling me they are 14.4% straighter, etc.

Brandt Snedeker still plays a TM Burner driver from around 2008-09? The black head before they switched to white

24.5 yards longer than what?
There’s a bloke at my club, I played with him earlier in the week and one of his long-standing mates said he has never seen him hit the ball further than he has done in the past couple of months…at least 50metres (yes, 50).

Well, turns out this 84 year old finally gave in and purchased a big-headed driver (about $50 from Woolies or K-Mart) and put it in the bag over his old steel-shaft metal head from circa 1995.

Yep, i can see the marketing now….
“How an 84 year-old started hitting his drives 50 metres longer”

So, I ask again, 24.5 longer than what?

Dude, watch the video…

Tramps like us, baby we were born to run.

Great video, I like that guy, makes such a difference having a nice pommy guy instead of some cocky seppo, but that’s just me. I’d be getting lessons of this guy, doesn’t seem bitter, jaded or like he’s selling a ‘system’.

That aside, interesting stats too. Thanks for sharing.

the pro shop at my course currently has two massive callaway posters

1) Razr Fit-”longest driver in golf” or some rubbish

2) X hot driver- “you are about to get longer”

what a effing joke

You’re just jealous because the voices only talk to me

I really like that guys channel on youtube. He is a very honest and entertaining guy. And I really like his very simple swing.

That’s the most lucid comment in a long while. Where is Stinkler & what have you done with him …

Is Lucid related to Lucifer?

Can you understand, I mean really understand what he is saying?

Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf.

If I can’t, how would I know?

The problem with mark’s reviews is that he likes everything he tests (with regards to performance, looks is another thing). And even when he uses trackman the results don’t vary much, except for when the club is cheating on loft and length.

I actually think that makes a good point that most of the drivers he reviews are pretty similar

he raved about the ping g25

he said the 910 was the same as 913 from titleist….I agree

hes probabaly the only guy that doesnt have a strong bias towards a brand.

Again its only his thoughts. Geof Ogilvy said he tries a new drivers all the time and finds after about 4 or 5 shots its pretty much the same as what hes using

we dont because our swing isnt the same

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

But is that more of an indictment about the fact that other than the fancy graphics, club performance is at its limit?

good point

its gettinmg close to the plateau we knew was coming ….

I kinda like it

I’m forever tinkering – and i know if I order a “shiny new toy” (mark’s favorite saying) that its probabaly going to be a pretty decent bat

Im usimng this years razr fit Xtreme but its marginally better than last years Razr fit

Im loving it but going to pull the rigger on cobra cell ornage or blue or a ping G25

just as I’m curios

Oddly I dont change irons much compared to drivers, find god irons and I keep em. Steve Stricker said the same – keep your favorite irons whereas drivers he was happy to try the new one

But maybe I do, maybe you don’t. Perception is just that, perceived.

When you can explain what you think you know, please be sure to let me know. Then ill know if you know what I think you know, and I’ll know I didn’t know what I thought I did.

With drivers yes. I dare say the limit was reached years ago. They’re just changing the shape and COG around. Bang on some funky colours, graphics and shaabam!..... “New driver that goes further”.

With irons, nothing has changed except the cheating lofts and lengths.

hes probabaly the only guy that doesnt have a strong bias towards a brand.

He’s a mizuno fan boi from way back. Also likes titleist and seems to be coming around to Nike given his love affair with the red covert driver.

He raved about ping i20 woods and ping g25

Amp cell driver he liked too.

Didnt rave about titleist driver (913) or razr fit xtreme

He liked x hot driver.

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?
