5 wood?....you mean hybrid

Of late I’ve been enquiring about 5 woods and am amazed at how practically every salesman/pro seems to correct me and say. ‘You mean a hybrid?’
FFS our no.1 player and Tiger both carry one and no doubt others as well.
It’s not like they’re not made. Surely a 21 degree 3 hybrid isn’t a 18 degree 5 wood….or am I wrong?

Apparently.

5 wood? Just hit a 5iron.

A 5 wood normally has a longer shaft as well. I carry a 5 wood and a 3 hybrid and get very different results with them.

I never thought about a 5 wood until recently, put one in the bag and now would never go without it, if anything I’d drop the 3 wood before the 5 wood.

Test

I have dropped both the 3 and 5 and put in a 4 wood which does everything I was getting form the 3 and 5 woods and I can now carry an extra wedge.

I carry a RBZ 3 & 5 wood. I felt like an old fart when I first started carrying the 5 but it works out perfectly for me, fills the gap between my 3 wood & 5 iron. You can play the 5 wood like a hybrid by choking down on it or grip it at the end & hit it longer, best of both worlds.

I ditched my 3wood months ago for a 4 wood. The 3w was always too long whenever I needed something longer than my 3i and the 4w now seems to be the perfect fit.
