Callaway X Hot driver

There’s a lot of love for the Razr Fit and the new Extreme, but has anyone tried the X Hot drivers?

I went to the range today and had a hit of the Ping with Diamana Ahina, Razr Fit Xtreme with stock Trinity, and X Hot (non tour version) with Project X Velocity 6.0 (blue stickered shaft). The X Hot was the clear winner and I’ve never hit a driver so well, so consistently. Okay it was only one short demo, but it felt far better suited to me than the driver I’ve been using for a year and am used to.

The Anser sounded clanky, didn’t seem any longer than my current Cobra S3, and because I’m still learning to control a fade/slice and it couldn’t be set to closed, it just didn’t work for me right now.

The Xtreme was weighted for draw bias but I don’t think the guy set it to closed, so I still struggled with it. Not exactly apples to apples, so I wouldn’t mind having another hit with it set to closed.

Last was the X Hot which the young guy in the pro shop was raving about. Set to closed and with I think the shaft from the Pro model, it was AMAZING. It felt like there was a rail from the top of my backswing down to the ball, and I could hardly miss. Having only played for a year and having had exactly 2 half hour lessons for fine tuning, this was an entirely new concept for me!!!
The X Hot was visibly longer than my Cobra, feel and sound were excellent, peak ball flight was similar but I was getting more roll as well, and it just filled me with confidence.

I reckon I hit 30 or more balls, 20 beautiful, a couple blocked left, a couple sliced from bad swings, and the rest faded just off line but still in play. I’m in love.

Now I just need to find $345…..assuming the blue Project X 6.0 shaft is not an up charge.

Of all the 2013 release drivers, the X Hot is by far my favorite.

I’m not sure why I’m not seeing as many around, it may be because most other drivers now giving you the option to alter loft and this one isn’t? I’m not sure.

I got mine with a HOF John Daly Tour shaft, it’s a cannon, will be in the bag for a while.

I bit the bullet and bought the X Hot, Drummond had a member’s sale so I got it for $303.
I started out on their simulator hitting the 6.5, then the 6.0 in the blue Pro shafts, and finally settled on the stiffest of the red non-Pro shafts. They all felt good, distance was the same on the red stiff shaft, but dispersion was slightly tighter than the 6.0. My swing speed was measuring about 95-98mph with some variations up and down. Average around 225m, best of 245m (I know they jack the numbers).

The impressive bit was hitting some absolutely horrible feeling heel shots that I thought would go nowhere, and one of them went 235m and just a bit left of centre. They felt like shite but distance was amazingly (disturbingly?) similar to a good strike.

By comparison my Cobra S3 was as long on the best hit shots, but dispersion was looser (I’ve never been a fan of the Fujikura Blur shaft) and my mishits were shorter and wilder. Hopefully it, and the couple of lessons I’ve had, help me find more fairways :-)

Good one…

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

Dave I had a crack with the Extreme but it just didn’t feel quite as good for me as the X Hot. The Velocity shaft seems a better match for me, and the bigger head of the X Hot is a bit better for chumps like me

If its anything like the two X Hot hybrids I just bought you will truly be longer from everywhere. PS – there is no upgrade charge for the pro version shafts if you haggle.

I just got the X Hot Pro irons with KBS tour c-taper shafts. They are awesome, now want the driver and 3 wood

I just bought these too, they are awesome but still getting used them.

Also just purchased the 18 degree x hot pro hybrid

yup, Callaway have done well designing 3 different drivers for 3 ability levels if you like

the X hot has a snideg more draw bias and lighter combo also

Oddly I have sold my Xtreme…LOL

dont panic I have replaced with another one

I didnt like the blur shaft and have gone to Trinity Reg – I found the trinity stiff too much shaft me. I sold it last night for 300 and got another Xtreme for 390 posted overnight (golf box gave me a discount) it would have cost me that to get shaft

I have V2 shaft coming also (66 gram stiff)

good to hear the X hot is going well….to have trust in the big dog I reckon creates an inner confidence that flows onto other parts of your game

Super impressive comeback by Callaway drivers in the last 2 years

Mubs..put the driver on the course for a few rounds and report back, keen to know if it is outperforming your old driver or not…:)

Actual first on course trial is tomorrow, playing a rare 18 holes while the kids are off with nanna so I’ll report back if my abysmal “Fairways Hit” stats improve at all :-)

Today was so insanely windy that it made most of the round incredibly difficult. Once the ball got above the treeline the wind just grabbed it and took it. So even my good swings were pushed off line.

However the forgiveness of the X Hot is a big improvement over my S3, I hit a couple of terrible feeling heel shots and one right off the toe, and they went low but still 95% of normal distance, and the toe shot especially didn’t slice off to the right, the shot stayed straight without twisting the club in my hands. Very happy with my purchase.

wind..I know what youre saying

yesterday was the same for me.

pissing rain also…2 man ambrose the razr fit xtreme was playing in xtreme weather…the weather won!!

I pulled out after 9, partly also there was this young guy in our group who was annoying to the point where I was simply not enjoying it

after 7 holes I said I’m done after 9 lads and the old guy who was partner was feeling the same…..I then said we are not playing for a living

the young guy who plays off 6 says well one day I want to play on tour!....LOL….hes 17 and maybe but I cant see it …but his attitude was that he was already on tour…spending ages on yardages and putts…while it was pissing rain….pls he was annoying never stopped yabbering after every shot ….drove me fkn nuts to be honest LOL…dribing rain and howling winds made it an easier decision to pull out

Ok back to the topic

the X hot is a mean looking beast and callaway ought to be applauded for making a driver aimed at certain player.

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

I saw a couple other X Hot head covers in other players’ bags too, driver and fairway wood. A few more new Callaway iron sets than I’ve seen in the last year as well (my boss bought a full bag of Callaway last year, except a G20 driver), they do seem to be making a resurgence.

reading reviews on wrx they say the X hot faorway is better than the Xtreme fairway

if I do need a 3 wood it has to be draw biased

I hit driver with slight fade…

draw my hybrids but oddly I hate 3 woods because I cut em badly

if this wood has some draw bias I might be keen, they also say the face on the X hot fairway is creates faster ball speeds then the Xtreme fairway

I loved last years razr fit driver but the fairway was crap and I tried 3 different shafts in it and still no good!

will wait a bit and grab one from USA ebay cheap (3 or months time)

Haven’t had much time for golf in the last fortnight but I snuck off to the range early this morning, and even after 2 weeks off and only a few 7 irons to warm up, I was hitting the X Hot driver straight or slightly fade, with only a couple of dodgy swings producing a big slice, and a couple of extreme toe hits that hooked left a bit. I think I’ll always have a little bit of the “what if’s” about going for the stock red Stiff shaft vs the blue “real” 5.5 that I originally demoed, but I am still loving the forgiveness off all parts of the face, and the distance too. Now if only I had time to actually go play some golf….
