Gap

My current set-up is: Driver (8.5 degree), 3-wood (15 degree), Hybrid (18 degree), 3-PW irons plus 2 vokeys (53 degree and 58 degree), putter. The problem I’m having is a big gap between my Hybrid and 3-iron…about 25-30m. I also have a 2-iron that I like and hit quite well that would fill the gap nicely, but I can’t decide which club I would leave out? Any thoughts? I’ve thought about the PW, as I think I can get around it with my 9-iron and vokeys, and don’t mind hitting half to 3/4 shots, but maybe this will just create other problems? Anyone else been through something similar? What’s worked for you? Cheers.

Have you considered a 21* hybrid to replace the 3- iron and drop the 4-iron? Or drop the 18 hybrid and keep the 4-iron. The 21 hybrid is very versatile.
Totally ignorant about almost everything except golf. |

I got around this recently by swapping the 18* hybrid I had for an adjustable 5 wood. R11 Ti to be precise. It plays at 19 now which keeps the gap between it and my 3 at something like 10-15m. So now my gaps are (carry distance): Driver- 250 And so on. At 18 the 5 wood carried 220ish which didn’t suit my gaps or the courses I play.

The 18° H is a 3-iron equivalent. 4-iron would be around 22° As the hybrid works so much better than the iron, swap your 4i for a hybrid matching your 3H. You won’t then need the 3i either, so you’ll have a spare slot for whatever.

Get rid of 3 iron go a 21-22* hybrid Then 4 iron- to pw in irons Unless you pure your 3 iron and you’re off plus 2 cap Thats what I’d be doing! I like my hybrids to match.

I recently bought a 19 three hybrid to fill the gap between my 3wood and 3iron, but I hit the 19 hybrid as far as my 15* 3wood, so In other words whatever the club try it out for distance first

Thanks for your thoughts everyone. Lowlife, what you’ve described is exactly how the problem has arisen. I hit the 18 degree Hybrid about as far as my 3-wood, but I can hit different shots with the two clubs and therefore like having them both in my bag. Clearly a 3-hybrid/5-wood seems to be getting most peoples votes which I hadn’t considered…good food for thought. Cheers.

Not really OB, 18 is a 5wood. 3irons are generally 21 then 4(24), 5(27) and so on. A 21 degree hybrid should carry the same as your 3iron but with an added 5-10m of height at apex with steeper decent. But in saying that, if your getting less distance out of the 18 & 21 hybrids they could quite easily fill the gap of 3 and 4 irons. After all it is about gaps rather than what number is on the bottom. I think the trick is to be comfortable from the green out, no good having the gaps small at the top of the bag while leaving gaping holes around your scoring clubs…

I found this also But with a 17 deg hybrid I hit that as far as my 14 deg 3 wood…more loft is the key My 3 wood is gone….I have no need for it
