Saw this video a few weeks ago…

The review Mark did got me interested as the comparison to his $30k Trackman was pretty close and gave pretty much most of the info I’d like during my practice.
And ever since have been trying to see if I could source the device locally. Not a lot of luck to be honest. Especially since the Australian distributor expects us to pay $299 instead of the $199 that the rest of the world is paying.

Seems like a great product but if the practice of extreme markups continues I WILL NOT be getting one from there, I emailed them something along the same lines. I also found this site today…

http://www.expansys.com.au/...

Which is selling them for $228.xx including postage. Slightly more reasonable and probably more in line with what we would be paying.

Has anyone had any exposure to these, places to buy etc.

Spoke to the Aussie distributor via email today, pulling the pin because apparently not enough margin for profit…. $100 markup isnt enough???

Theyre offloading their Android versions for about $170 if anyones interested.

Do you actually have to hit a ball with these things or can you just swing the club to get a reading?

With the SwingTIP, you have to hit a ball.

Same with the Swingbyte.

I have SwingByte and I was less than impressed. I found that after a swing the device would move ever so slightly and then give a false reading. Quite often I’d swing and it would say clubface open, show ball going right, but I’d hit a draw, look down and the device had moved. It was also very difficult to attach to the club, had to use all my strength to stretch the rubber to the lugs, and was constantly worried about them snapping.

You don’t need to hit a ball with SwingByte, but you do need to hit something. Like the ground, or mat, so it can register when impact was made.

I also found the Android version of the software terrible to use. Not sure if iPhone is any better.

I might grab one of those 3bays for cheap though.

I had a similar problem with the iping putting cradle. I put a small piece of white masking tape around the base of the grip where it will ultimately sit, gives it a backing rather than a smooth steel shaft. Worked well. Plan to use similar for the swingbyte.

I have already downloaded the ipad app for the swingbyte and it looks pretty good. I like the customization available for inputting club specs, obviously the better these are recorded, the more accurate the results will be.

I might have access to a flightscope so I may be able to test them side by side in the coming week.

Next thing you’ll know they’ll probably start building this stuff into or inside the shaft.

I almost bought the 3bays 6 months ago.
The club has to hit something, doesn’t need to be a ball though.

“If Ben Hogan saw that, he’d puke…”

A bit of non slip matting under the Swingbyte solves the problem. Still a little bit of PITA though;

Where did you manage to get that from? SKLZ said it’s not released yet, and can’t find anywhere that sells them.

Cheers,
Ben

I saw one at Rebel Sport before xmas… while I was getting a SKLZ impact bag..

I haven’t used it a lot as yet, but seems sturdy enough. The clowns that tried to bend it have no idea, you simple tilt it towards you to get the “ball” to the height you want.

I bought a SwingByte second hand from another ISG’er and find that it is consistently measuring the face angle open by ~10-12 degrees. I have realigned it and recalibrated but always get the same results.

All the other metrics look good including the swing path, club head speed etc.

If I can get the face angle sorted out it will be a fantastic training aid.

Also planning to using it during a practice round tomorrow, especially off the tee to see why my driving is so crap on course…
