OK – just read the SwingByte support page and I think I know why the face angle is showing as open. SwingByte doesn’t actually know what my target line is but works it out from the initial path of my backswing. One of my issues is taking the backswing above the plan where the clubhead starts off outside the target line. Since SwingByte thinks this is the target line, the club head will seem open to the target line… So this is a swing fault, not a problem with SwingByte! Funny that…

Epamis, is that an outside in swing path that you have? Cheers Tim

I got the Swingtip a month ago from ebay and it works quite well once aligned properly. Haven’t tested it against anything else so I can’t comment on the accuracy of it’s numbers.

My swingbyte arrived today…missed the post office by 5 minutes so will pick it up tomorrow and have a play around. Hoping to get the flightscope out in the arvo (fingers crossed) so we will see how it goes.

I’ve got one of the 3BAYs and you don’t need to hit anything.

Just had the Swingbyte turn up and as a result, will do a brief review of what I think so far. The device arrived in a nondescript box inside an express post bag. Within what was a tiny parcel was the actual box. As you can see there isn’t much box. On the inside there is the device, a small usb charging cable, 2 rubber ties, 2 plastic shims and an instructional sheet. The operation is fairly simple. I think the hardest part will be deciphering all the info that the device can recored. As well as an accurate 3D representation of your swing from address to impact it records the following data: Time and date As you can see there are a lot there to decipher. However in the “My Swing Data” screen there is a little ‘i’ button next to the reading that actually describes the metric in simple terms. In 30 minutes without rushing I managed to open the box, set it up and swing/record 44 swings with a 6i. I also tried to do some funky swings and the swingbyte couldnt be tricked. I’m heading to the range tomorrow so I will take it and see what it says up against a flightscope (fingers crossed). So far very impressed with what it can measure.

I have had some connectivity issues with the unit and my phone – HTC One XL. It pairs up on bluetooth no worries, but there seems to be some sort of issue between the unit and the app on my phone when I activate the app and want to take a swing. On the flip side, I borrowed an older model phone – HTC Desire Z – and gave it a run on that and it worked well. There are overlays you can use when analysing (shows take away and downswing of beginner, advanced and pro golfer) to compare your swing. Not bad – you can see where the club should be as opposed to where it actually is on the playback. I don’t know about the swing plane yet – it reckoned that I hit a lot of inside-to-out, but I think I’m more outside-to-in, based on my tendancy to slice….. All in all though, I think it will be a pretty handy tool to give me some feedback, based on which I can endeavour to improve myself.

On the ipad this thing is awesome. Hit it up against the flightscope this morning and it is very accurate at what it records. Speed was within +/- 1-2mph and angles were similar. The pro found it to be a brilliant training aid to actually show the position of the clubhead throughout the swing. With the aid of some coaching I think I’ll find this the most useful piece of gear I’ve bought in a long time.

Found this update to the software (app). New version will have what they’re calling ITR utilising the camera on the ipad/iPhone/android etc. Much like the camera function on the trackman. First release will be on ipad late Feb. with the newer SB released a few months down the track. http://www.thegolfwire.com/... Should be cool, I’m getting a lot of good practice using this thing.

Have had my Swingbyte for a week now and everyone including the club pro is impressed, very handy and quick reference tool that can be used anywhere anytime. The pro clocked a 115mph swing with his driver and recons that it is right on the money. Only problem I’ve had was in activating the app on my Iphone.
LOFT. the real reason why my handicap is where it is! |

Well the better half bought me a golf sense system from the apple store which seems a similar sort of deal to what is described here (what an enabler he can be for someone who bemoans the amount of time I spend on this game) The sensor clips through the Velcro of your glove, so it doesn’t give a reading about the openness or otherwise of the club face, but a lot of the other metrics are similar. So far seems really interesting. Only an iOS app, so will have to use it on the iPhone rather than my android tablert, but it is intended to use with your phone in your pocket to measure hip rotation.
