Most suitable ball for my swing

Hey All,

Thought it could be a good idea to get a thread going where a poster can post details of their swing and others can give advice on what ball they should be looking at using.

I have a swing speed between 115 and 120 mph when driving (not sure when using an iron? I guess it would be the same or similar?). I’ve only just started playing regular golf and my last 4 scores in the last month or so have been 39, 42, 45 and 49.

I currently use a Srixon ball but only because it was on special at Rebel Sport :) I dont really put any “work” on the ball, I can intentionaly slice the ball to get around a corner but thats about it. I hit a drive around the 280 to 320m mark.

So, has anyone got some advice on the type of ball I should be using? Price is a factor as I tend to lose a few balls :)

You have only been playing 4 months and hit it 280m – 320 m wow thats awesome.
With a bit of training and improvement in your ground force kinetics and Zen forces and D plane improvement everyone on here has no doubt we can almost certainly have your distance out past 380 -420m within next twelve months. (if you do this I know a man who get you a contract so you never need to worry about buying balls ever again)

consider this

The average swing for a PGA tour pro is 110mph

Assume scores of 39, 42, 45 and 49 are stableford scores or nine hole scores.

The average PGA tour pro hits ball 250 -255m.

The Callaway swing speed monitor almost certainly set on their Macho setting.

now back to main question which ball.

First question in ball fitting is what do you want the ball to do, spin or distance or control.

are greens where you play hard or soft.

do you play into wind alot.

what dont you like about the Srixon soft feels you currently buy.
based on these answers we can start to recommend a ball type for you.

Seems people forget the shorter ones.

I’ve smashed beautiful drives that have gone 200 into the wind, and miss hit ropey hooks that have gone over 300 when the set up is right.

On flat ground without wind I would be surprised if many people can average over 250. An average should include all your drives, not just the few you remember from when cyclone tracy was behind you and the fairways hadn’t seen water for a month.

There’s that, plus most people think 250-260 meters is 300+.

Frequently (well, probably not that frequently) i’ll nail a drive and the guys in the group will go, Yep that’s 300, maybe 310 you just hit that. I’ll say to them, nah, more like 270-280. I walk to my ball than laser in back at the tee….

............... 263.

yeah since getting my gps a few weeks back and using the measure shot function, I am starting to get a good feel of lengths, and generally you are well short of what you think. My smashed drives are usually 260, although I did hit one 312m on dry fairways not long ago.

The distances werent at the Callaway golf fitting as they werent with my clubs, all I was interested in was my swing speed. It wasnt so much a club fitting as such, it was just them showing off their new clubs and you could have a swing using the tracking monitor and also request a fitting if you wanted.

I have been measuring my distances with the golf shot GPS app and using the distance markers at both Sandhurst and Albert park. Fair enough if these arent accurate

As said before, hopefully the swing tracker at Albert Park this saturday is accurate and I can report back with my numbers

Mate if you hit it that far you should come to one of our OOM games and win the Long drive comp.
with this goes a lot of prestige.

Al, lets just say that …........ something “must have come up” for Lyynnnchy …........ as I failed to spot him amongst out little group of 6.

T’was a good session though …...... but I don’t think anyone got near his self proclaimed swing speeds … or distances. (my ave speed was 99.7 … carry distance ave 211m)
