iPhone GPS watch legal?

I know the iPhone legality thing has been done to death, but….
I recently saw a watch that connects to your iPhone via Bluetooth and can apparently be used as a GPS. It connects to a GPS app on the phone somehow.

If the iphone stays in the bag in standby mode, and the watch cannot access any other apps ( weather, compass etc), could this be considered legal for competition play?

I would say not legal, because you are still using the features of the phone to obtain the information.

I would say legal if the device used only provides gps.
In this case it sounds like the iphone is a mere portal to the network.

Gee it would suck up iphone battery though.

…..

It’s the device that you’re using that matters.
1. It has to run the golf gps apps or there’s no point.
2. It must be unable to access to access any compass functionality.

While I have no knowledge of the watch, I think that both these are unlikely. i.e. it won’t run the golf apps and it probably has compass functionality with the inherent gps.
