Anyone go driver 5 wood?

I have used Driver 5 wood quite a bit. It makes a lot of sense. Basically, the 5 wood will stop short enough of any choke points or fairway bunkers that might give the driver trouble. The 5 wood is heaps easier to hit off the fairway and in the rough than any 3 wood. The 5 wood has a better chance of laying up in front of and stopping short of trouble. A 3 wood is harder to hit and might carry you into that zone anyways. I do not see a small little 3 wood being any easier to hit for your average bloke than a watermellon sized driver. If you have a closed or open face its going to mean trouble with either club. The 5 wood with the same ugly shot might remain within sight of the fairway. And if your having a bad day you can just choke up a bit on the 5 wood and tap it out there 180-200 or so meters and keep it all in play, finishing your round with some form of dignity.

I went Driver, 5 Wood for a little while, but found that I missed the 3 Wood off the tee. The 5 wood goes about 200m and the 3 wood about 220m. There is about a 40-50m difference with my Driver and 5wood which is too big. Current bag is Driver, 3w, 5w, 23 Hybrid, 5i-PW, 50/54/58 wedges. The biggest gap is between the 5iron 170M and the 5 wood 200m, which the hybrid covers. I find with this range I don’t knock it close too many times. I rather carry the extra wedge.

I go driver – 2 iron, and thinking about dropping the 2 to go driver – 4

I go driver, deep 3/4wood, shallow 5w, 21 hybrid. Driver and 3or4 wood off the tee (Amp cell so can adjust to either loft). I don’t hit the deep face fairways off the deck, so I use a low profile 5W (Baffler or G15) for anything off the deck. It limits my wedges, but I like going PW(46) 52, 58, fits my needs nicely, and saves me ginning around on wedge choice around the green. Cheers,
