ReShaft or new bats

G’day all. Firstly I’m a bit of a chopper. Current handicap is 22 but I don’t play comp often and with my scores of late I’d say I play to about 18ish. My putting and chipping is ok and driving is a hole by hole proposition but its my irons that are really giving me grief. I’m about 190cm tall and playing standard length burner 09 irons with stock regular steel shafts. After having a word with a few seasoned golfers I reckon I need to be playing +1” shafts. So my budget isn’t massive and I’m happy enough with the burner heads so do I reshaft and if so what $$ would I be looking at shelling out? Also can a cast iron be adjusted for lie angle with any success? Or do I sell mine and buy new bats?

Go and get the price list from fergo golf and get a new set of sticks for a great price and send him your fitting measurements. http://m.churchvillegolfcen...

Agreed, and just for your information, I have had a fitting before I bought my last clubs and I am 195cm tall and I play +1” on standard so I doubt you would be +1” but I am not a pro. Getting lesson would help as well as there is also things like lie angle etc which need to be factored in as part of the fitting can not just get then +1”. Pay the money for the fitting and lessons and then make a decision

What is this golf game you talk of? |

Or better yet… go see a PGA pro that is proficient with ‘proper’ fitting. That way he can look at your swing while fitting and give you all the right options. I recently saw the guys at GCI in Brisbane. I went for a fitting only-driver through putter- and ended up with around an hour worth of bonus lesson as part of the fitting. Tweaked a few things and made a big difference on my game especially the driver. Before going there I would have just said get fitted for the right shafts and specs but since the visit I cant stress enough the importance of being fitted by someone who is also an accredited PGA coach. BUT….... I love new stuff too so I know its a hard choice :)

Syconate, if you really want to do it on the cheap, you can simply add extenders into the shafts. That will have a small effect on the swing weights and the lie angles might need to be adjusted. While that’s being done, the lofts might as well be checked, too. So, while your expert club fitter is doing all that, you might as well get fitted first. Then you’ll know whether longer clubs are suited to you or not.

All sound advice guys. Particularly like the advice from live4golf! Bushy what did the fitting at GCI cost and how did you rate the experience? Has it improved your golf?

Ok so an update… Contacted Fergo RE price lists and also did his fitting questionnaire and the results were interesting and puts things in perspective. So it turns out that I’m a T Rex…. Big body with short arms so my standard length and lie burners are way too short and way to flat for me and I also need a stiffer shaft. Fergo recommended the following specs: So the irons I’m considering are So I’ve hit razr x and I own burners so the RBZ should be a similar feel but I’d like to try a JPX and X Hot before pulling the trigger but all seem to get great reviews so I’m not concerned if I can’t demo them first. So any thoughts on the above irons or other suggestions I should consider? Better start saving… Bring on the overtime I guess.

Syco, the evidence is in that the current shafts are probably not right. You said you were happy with the Burner heads. Get fitted for new shafts. But I can understand anyone wanting new Mizzies to grace their bag !

Syco 4 degree upright is just that very upright. usually people who have over the top swing planes get fitted for these. what ever irons you buy make sure they can be bent down those 4 degree’s as your swing gets better ie as it gets better your swing should get flatter. D G shafts are designed for strong hitters. Off 22 why do you want to hit it lower, my guess is you hit it high because you cut across ball with open club face. a lesson from Pro will correct this fault much more than making the clubs with stiff shafts do this. The club brand makes very little difference to performance of club. As Old Bogey says see what it costs you to reshaft and put DG sahfts into your current heads (bet its cheaper than a new set)
