Hi guys, wondering about the the distance that comes up on the screen for doglegs, is the distance for the middle of the fairway or far side or nearside?

If its done by the ‘professinals’, I’m 99% sure it’s the the centre of green i.e. best place for the layup.
If its done by ‘joe public’ on his home course, god only knows….. It could be to anywhere!!

Normally the main distance is to the centre of the green, if there are any other points mapped for the hole they will appear down the right hand side of the scree with distance.

e.g on a dogleg the distance will be to the centre of the green and if the dogleg has been mapped it will appear of the right hand side with an arrow symbol

the big fella is correct
to the middle of the green
hazards should be noted with the distance to front and back (carry))

any one else heading home to get married??

I thought he was talking about the lay up spots that are labelled with an X, and a distance…...
(at least I’m pretty sure thats what it is on mine)

But yes, the main metre reading is to the centre of the green, by passing any dog legs etc etc….

Actually the dogleg symbol shows the distance from where you are standing to the centre of the fairway/dogleg point.

The X (layup) has two figures first one is distance to the layup point (which will usually be in the middle of the fairway and a reasonable distance back from the creek/water hazard. The second figure is the distance from the layup point to the middle of the green.

I’m not sure if these responses answer the question.

Firstly, I’m not sure whether my GPS has a ‘dogleg’ symbol.
Secondly, if one is not referring to a dogleg symbol, the distance shown is from wherever you are directly to the green, not via a circuitous route such as round the dogleg.

On my gps I get an arrow symbol with on the screen so lets say the distance from tee to green 350m the symbol might come up with 175m I’m just curious as to where the 175m is, is it for the centre of fairway or shortest distance or furthest distance to the far side of the fairway. I have checked the instruction book but it doesn’t tell me.

Main reason is on a dogleg I want to hit to the centre of the fairway and open up the green.

deepdivot

i would take the reading to the centre of fairway when looking at the dogleg..

Ta I’m playing flinders today the only hole it may show up on is the 13th but it will be difficult to grasp as that’s from an elevated tee. I would presume that the distance on the screen would be for the centre of the fairway so I’ll try and hit to that distance And see how I go. I’m not playing enough to really work it out but I might measure the distance from tee to where I think the best landing area is and see if they match.

If professionally measured it it the centre of the fairway at the dogleg.

Just a quick note as well a lot of the member measure version are based on the professional measure and have had the scorecard enter for stableford

Deepy, now I understand the crux of your question.

It should be to the centre of the fairway across the centre of the bend. But it all depends on the mapping that was done, the current cloud cover and positioning of the satellites.

You can check how good it all was when you get there – the reading should drop to zero.
