hey all new to the site and the sport..im after a driver and went into my local drummond and they gave me a powerbilt air force one and a taylormade rbz bonded to swing..just after some thoughts on these or any other options..the rbz felt good but on the screen it said i hit the air force better..

cheers jay

Don’t rush, try and go to some demo days, get some feedback and find a good second hand driver.

There’s many a slip ’tween a cup and a lip.

Better yet ask the pro shop to let you take a demo one out the next round you play. No better feedback than actually playing the thing for a full round.

Jabba , drummonds are exclusive agents for powerbilt, knowing how retailers function, me thinks they are being far from objective in recommending that one, id urge to go for what feels best

meh…”he said, she said”
wot did u said?
Go with your feel, ask your pro shop for a demo and take it to the range for a small bucket then play 18 with it.
over all you will find the 3 experiences so VERY different (in the net, on the range, on the course)
and never feel you have to buy the one you have just taken out…the pro has lots of them and there are lots of different brands, each different in their own way.

OR
approach your club pro, tell him you are looking to buy a driver and he may well offer you a selection of several different head/shaft combinations for you to try…and all this costs nothing!

then buy a razr fit LOL

you cant beat the fit

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

If you are truly new to the sport, consider leaving buying a driver for a while and concentrate on hitting your 3wd off the tee – get a driver when you have gained some consistency and a bit of an idea of how you swing the club.

Good advise deege but need to consider the type of 3 wood
Some are deep face and not suitable for fairway use & some are shallow and better for fairway use and hard to get it away from off the T

I disagree

1 driver = bigger face = more forgiving
2 builds confidence
3 no fun hitting 3 wood + golf needs to be fun for new players especially

Get a 12 deg driver with some adjustability

Whack a 44 inch shaft – good to go

Dave,

I guess it depends. If you are hitting driver into the trees all day, that is not fun either. I would agree with the new game needs to be fun, so perhaps I should amend to say the following

Get a driver by all means, but don’t spend a squillion bucks on it as you might want to get something different when your game has settled down a bit and do practice hitting all sorts of clubs off the tee to see what is the most fun for you and gets the best results.

Agree something adjustable to minimize jungle journeys

More loft = forgivness

I gave a mate who even he says is a chopper a 12.5 deg driver

He’s now 190-200 straightish off the tee…

We cut the shaft to play 44 inches

Essentially its a large oversized 3 Wood

The air force driver is supposed to be very forgiving for off center hits as the face has a very large area of forgiveness due to its design. So good for us new golfers who struggle to hit the centre of the face regularly. If it works for you forget the brands and go with what works.

I agree, 3w wont necessarily make it any easier off the tee, a 12.5 would be the go…if i knew at the start what i know now, it would have been my first driver

yeah its a no brainer

More loft and bigger head size must make the game easier – it must!

It simply has to

cheers for the feedback, iv had a few hits with a mates driver that has 10.5 loft and wasnt hitting them to bad, so im going to get the rbz for the reason it felt better to hit..

cheers jay

nothing wrong with an RBZ bat

I think its better driver than the TM R11 series

hit the RBZ and it was very forgiving and long, stock offering (shaft) was ok too

Golf is only a game…Yeah right who are you kidding?

picked up an RBZ tonight and went straight to the driving range, i had never hit a ball as straight or long as i did tonight very happy with the purchase. im now hooked and cant wait to have another hit..

I reckon finding a good driver and putter are the biggest relief

Game ofren starts with driver – ends with putter….

as a beginner i agree. I can hit driver normally solid (has gone off a bit last week) but i still can’t hit a 3W to save my life.

as everyone else suggested take your time in choosing clubs, there is no rush. I rushed into my irons and now thinking of a switch. + shopping for new golf gear is awesome fun!!

Welcome to a serious addiction Jabba, I also only started a couple of months ago and just got my second after market shaft in the mail today to play with for my razr fit, can not help myself but love feeling out different equipment.

Everyone is right though, try not to rush club purchases, you will have years for that. I could have made a fatal mistake ordering my iron set before I even really started playing, 2009 forged X with 6.0 project X shafts but got extremely lucky that they are great irons and the shafts are ok for my swing speed, although they are still a steep learning curve, not very forgiving.

Early stages you are far better off getting a fitting, will set you up and help guide all your future purchases, especially for helping work out what shafts are suitable for all your clubs, wrong shafts in an iron set can be an expensive mistake.
