Penta TP5 replacement is "Lethal" (sheesh)

The new 322-dimple design offers improved performance in all wind conditions promoting longer and straighter shots with better control, and the most penetrating flight of any TaylorMade ball. http://forum.mygolfspy.com/... Some testers had concerns about the cover being damaged easily, no idea if they solved that or not for the production model.

Just shows that TM had little “brand confidence” by completely abandoning the Penta brand. IMO it’s a mistake. They had a brand that was taking on the ProV1 & now they walk away from it. The “Lethal” brand sounds more suited to a cheap two piece ball.

I think moving away from the number 5 completely is a bad idea, brand continuity is such a big thing especially seeing as ProV1 never changes, the ball gets updated but the name never changes. I thought Project 5 was an awesome name, and the 5 links to TP5. The ball will be great I’m sure and should deserve to sell well, but I agree, Lethal is a poor name for a premium product.

So Lethal replaces the TP5, no word on a direct TP3 replacement HOWEVER they are releasing a Rocketballz Urethane ball, the RBZ ball is a 3 piece distance ball that they are maybe now trying to give more greenside spin? Is this the death of the Penta name entirely? RocketBallz Urethane incorporates Tour-validated, cast urethane, three-piece construction to promote a penetrating and distance-enhancing flight off the driver, and more spin off the irons for increased workability and higher, longer approach shots that land softly and stop quickly. The soft yet highly resilient core promotes fast ball speed and low spin off the driver; the high-spin mantle works with the cover and core to promote high spin off the irons; and the soft-cast urethane cover promotes the kind of greenside spin and feel that urethane covers are known for. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) is $29.99 per dozen. Layers: 3

GSP, you are quick to pass judgement without actually trying the ball out. Maybe you should wait until it is released and compare it to the Pro-V and the Z-Star. Too many people are quick to make an assumption based on name or aesthetics but change their mind after they have tried them

Like happened with Rocketballz!

Rocketballz Urethane should sell by the truckload at that $30 price point

Okay forget that, I just found out that there will be NO 3 piece ball on the Australian market from TM. So you can buy the lethal, or stock up on runout model TP5. If you wanted to try the RBZ Urethane, or keep using TP3, you’re shit out of luck and will need to order from overseas we will not be running the RocketBallz Urethane in AUS/NZ as Lethal is a better ball….no 3 piece ball in the aussie market… the Lethal achieves the same thing as the TP3/RBZ Urethane and more as a result of 5 layers
