Titleist 913 D3 driver

I had a chance to take out a 913 today. I had an Adila RIP stiff shaft, and 9.5 degree head set on D1 (so it was actually 8.75 degrees). This was as close a setup as I could get to my current driver: Ping G10 9.0 deg, Grafalloy prolaunch red stiff. It was a quiet day, so I played 2 balls off each tee, one with each driver. When I got to our 14th, which is an ideal place to see what a driver is doing, I hit 2 G10 shots and then tried to beat them with the 913, taking another 6 shots. Based on this, the G10 suits me better. I only hit 2 913 shots past the G10 in the whole round, the G10 was straighter and more forgiving. The 913 is a slightly shorter club, it looks, felt and sounded really nice. I hit some very nice shots, they just did not outperform the G10. There are many other shaft and head set up combinations I could try, but the point of today was to see if there was anything exciting about the performance. The G10 stays in the bag, the £350 or so stays in my bank account.

Not surprising DG. The G10 is still a mighty driver.

That’s why I HAD D3 & flicked it already. Try & hit a D2, feels totally different & performs better for mine.

Surprised, I would have thought that the 913 in both heads would far outperform a 2005 model driver

You would like to think so.
I’m just misunderstood that’s all… |

Some great deals on 910s about on the bay. That’s where I will head once I have a fitting.
There’s many a slip ’tween a cup and a lip. |

IMO drivers have maxed out. It’s all smoke & mirrors now. Lee Westwood is one of the longest & straightest drivers on tour. He still uses the G10.

anyone have the 910 and 913 and see any improvements?

Currently using 910d2.

Yep, and these guys would have access to pretty intense fitting to max out their setup. For him to bypass the g15, i15, g20 and i20 says something… The only thing driver heads have improved on over the past 6-7 years is forgiveness IMO. Put the exact same shaft in drivers from the past 5-6 seasons and off the screws there’ll be a few yards in it at the most. Where newer drivers shine is on off centre hits, I know the g20 goes a lot further on off centre hits than my previous drivers.

IMO if that proposition is correct (re forgiveness) it is minimal. As a former G10 owner I can say it is a very forgiving driver. It doesn’t surprise me that Westwood has stuck with it. With most new drivers its all about cosmetics. Remember also that Tiger is using a 2009 driver.

Yeah you may be right, I cant comment on comprisons as ive never owned or gamed a G10 but i recall reading somewhere the biggest thing for Westwood re the G10 over the G20 was workability. Although it wouldnt surprise me if it was cosmetics as the G20 looks like a pumpkin on a stick, massive head, some people just dont like it as much aesthetically.

If it sits slightly shut at address a pro will hate it, Old model will stay in the bag if it sits squarer.Snap hook probably the most hated shot for a pro.
Broomsticks, Trevor Chappell and Lance Armstrong love theirs. |
