Thanks for the tip TTR!

I have the garmin and would definitely invest in the recharge battery kit, it does last about 3-4 rounds and with the recharge you are always ready to go.

Golf is not, and never has been, a fair game.

are these any good? recommendations?

I have been very happy with it for a couple of rounds. It is accurate and easy to use. Not at the top of the whiz bang version but will do what I need it for and for mine is excellent for the price.

Well, I had my first opportunity to use the Garmin G3 today. I’m long time SureShot 8850 user but I bought the Garmin as a potential xmas present for my father.

Well, all I can say is that the G3 is great. It is easy to use. Easy to read the screen in direct sunlight. The distances are accurate. One of my group had a SureShot and our distance reads were within one metre of each other.

I actually liked the simplicity of not entering my score into it (although it has that facility but it doesn’t work out your stableford score etc). I was able to concentrate on the pure distance aspect of it. I loved the helicopter view aspect of it also & being able to ‘drag’ a distance marker on screen.

By the end of the round the G3 was reading as 3/4 full battery.

All in all, a great little device. Can’t fault any aspect of it. I’d recommend it whole heartedly. Now, how to work out a substitute xmas gift for my father …

TTR glad to see you like it.

No, I am not a bandit! I do not shoot 47 points!

Handicap, I’m working on it.

No probs BM. If anyone out there is looking for a very good golf gps, have a scout around JB HiFi to see if there are any left. Well worth the effort if you can pick one up for the reduced price.

These are still available on line….

Got one cheap, love it. Measured a drive down gale at 312m on sunday with it.

Santa, family and friends all chipped in and got AB one of these went online and did the free update and got some more courses. Ones in a nearby small town. 9 holer that has a great little course and a 27 hole open. Played there this year(first time) and distances to turns etc were a drama…...not now :)
The shot distance measure will be good for pinpointing accurate club distances rather than guesstimating. Eg 9 ir etc not longest drive.
Can’t wait to get it on course

Okay iSeekers, here is my further review of the Garmin G3. I used it in a 4 ball Ambrose last Sunday. Actually one person failed to turn up so it was only a 3 ball for us. My two playing partners were using Bushnell V2 laser pinseekers.

To save readers looking through my previous posts, I had bought the Garmin from JB HiFi as a xmas present for my dad as I use a Sureshot 8850. I was giving it a bit of a road test.

Well, in a nutshell I continue to be blown away by the Garmin. It’s dead easy to use, intuitive (holes change automatically after leaving the green), fine in direct sunlight & accurate. The distance reads with my playing partners were either the same or only 1 metre difference.

As an aside, to underscore its benefit (gps vs laser) on a par 5 when we were going for the green in two, the laser range finders couldn’t lock on to the pin & kept getting a reading from the leaves (moving with the wind) on the trees behind the green. No such issue with the Garmin.

Yep, I’m blown away by it. My Surshot will be going to the bay. The Garmin still went to my dad for xmas but I’ve ordered one online from JB Hifi. It’s still available at $103.20. If you have been thinking of getting a GPS you’d be crazy not to jump on this deal while it’s still available. Garmin G3 Sale

Yep, agree with the above. Used mine today for the first time. Haven’t used any other previous GPS’ to compare it with however very happy with the setup and ease of use. Probably mainly used it today for distance only today however. I do know that I need a mount for my buggy to get even more use out of it. With the mount I think I would be using more of the features, particularly the touch targeting.

Fantastic. My first outing today with it and just awesome. Easy and simple to use. Love it!
Also played with JustLearning and I think I’ll be looking into making a mount like he has…...great idea.

Copying JustLearnings setup I used the Garmin belt clip and a old umbrella holder and also made a mount.
Just used a screw to attach to umbrella holder :)
Great idea JL

AB, just watch the belt clip as I think someone said that it can be unreliable. Hence the reason why I still use a lanyard in case it falls off and is lost or damaged.

Probably overkill for mine as I don’t think my scope mount will fail

Now down to $103.20 including free delivery.

Just ordered one for pickup today to replace my iPhone/Golfshot combination during competition since they are illegal. Haven’t been picked up on it yet but better safe than sorry…

bought mine a week ago (for $129 from JB Hi Fi, darn it!!!), although its my first GPS and can only compare it to apps on my phone, I’m defenitely glad I spent the money on the G3…

Walk into your nearest Apple store & buy the AA battery + recharger pack ($30). It has 6 NiMh rechargeable batteries in it. It is the best value around (I’ve compared everything else).

Is there a list of the courses somewhere? Being in regional Vic I am wondering whether my local will even be on there.
