f*&k me. hit one of these for the first time over the weekend. absolutely pure. very forgiving, reasonable distance. the sound of the ball off the face is very loud. not like a square sumo, a bit thicker sounding, but very loud. really impressed though, may stay in the bag for quite a while. house of golf are doing them dirt cheap at the moment with the new model that is coming out.

That was it’s first time? @#$% Keep it. Buy ear plugs :-)
It’s surprisingly easy to hole a 50-foot putt when you lie 10. |
|
yes my teenage son used a borrowed one when on holidays (never having used a hi-bore before). Got amazing distance but the sound is very disconcerting!
|
|
Can’t be as loud as my mis hits with the Ft-1!
Flush it, chunk it, flush it, chip it, hole it 5 a half! |
|
Gribs how much was it if you don’t mind me asking and did you get it up at Brisvegas?
All I said was that piece of halibut was good enough for Jehovah |

yeah lefty, H.O.G at virginia. i won’t usually buy from them, but the price was too good. $249 brand spankin. being a lefty as you know is not the easiet, i’d kept my eye out for one for about6-12 months. got 10.5 stiff (which is a little odd, normally only see 9 or 9.5 stiff off the shelf). plus i got a good trade on the old driver. ari: mate, it rung in my ears for about 20 secs after each tee shot-and the strikes out of the middle were waaay llouder than the misses!

I had this same feeling in the pro shop when demo’ing off launch monitor. I didn’t have the same results on course though (albeit after only 9 holes). I think I’m finding it difficult to handle the massive stretched back head – the looks of which are what drew me to the club in the first place. I might go back to a more traditional shape head. I know it’s me and not the club but if I don’t get some sort of confidence in it soon (yes I’m taking lessons) then it will be up for sale.

are the misses strong draws or big hooks anthony?

Fades & slices.

thats odd- i have a natural fade, and while i still missed with the hibore, the fades were a lot more bearable- and i hit some real strong draws with it- i did find the shape odd after playing an ft3 for a few weeks- little off putting, but mate i suggest you persevere with it, its a great stick

I use the Xl hibore tour 10.5* stiff shaft and wear ear plugs at the range but on the course it not as bad as I use a top end ball instead of the rock at the range.

Does take some getting used to But I can handle the noise considering the accuracy, distance and ball flight I’m getting :-) Personally, I like to Tee it high, open the face and smash a fade down the left side – still gets good roll-out to boot.

I’ve hit it as a demo at the range – they are GREAT. I couldn’t decide between the R or S shaft and the pro at the range is about to leave so I thought I’d not worry about it till the new guy get there. The sound doesn’t worry me – like the Cobra it has a carbon fibre cover that makes it sound like it does.
I like to chip it in. |
|
They don’t have carbon fibre in them at all; it’s all Titanium. They sound loud due to the metal being thinner to compensate for weight when constructed at the maximum size allowable = 460cc.

Isn’t it strange to see a thread started by Dr Gribuls coming up? I had a moment where I thought he was still with us.

Don’t think so…from memory it’s the Launcher or Hibore Monster XLS. The original Hibore XLS came before these two.

sorry

A stockist from where i’m from told me the Monster’s no longer, but a bit more forgiving than the XLS. I’ll try a demo one day. I’d really like to try the new Launcher, supposed to keep ball flight down a bit i’ve heard. That’d be nice.
