Length of Golf Putter

My son has had putting problems and as a last resort took his son’s junior putter out on the course and putted, in his words, magnificently. He has brought his Ping Anser Putter to me to get me to shorten his shaft. He wants a length of 30 inches but I am trying to convince hime to start with maybe 33 and see what happens. He can always take some more off but if he wants to lengthen he needs a new shast..
Is there anyone out there using a 30” putter or less. My son is 6”1” so his posture would be very stooped using a short length.
Any comments before I start cutting off the shaft.
Thanks.

Lop it off. Both my putters are now 30” and I’ll never go back.
I really doubt that you’ll need one, but shaft extensions are available.

All quick, jerky and wobbly motions are improper execution.

Go for the 33” first and if he doesnt like it cut it down. He is fairly tall you don’t want him having back problems.

tell him to borrow his son’s putter for a few rounds, guaranteed he’ll get used to it and start putting like he usually does then want his old putter back. I know players (including pros) that swear by switching putters as soon as the touch leaves the one they are using. A different putter just feels different, and putting is all about feel.

I’ve just bought a blade to go with my White Hot #1 for just this occasion…

3 bad shots and 1 good shot is still a 4....
Golf is played in a very small area, the 6 inches between your ears...

I’d say meet him half way & go 32.5”.

Well we bit the bullet and he has gone to 25”. I still use a Ping broomstick so we look a queer pair when we are on the greens together. Will be interesting to see how long before he comes running back to get a new shaft. Still he might have success. Time will tell.

25” ? what happened to the last 5” ?
At that length it sounds like he’s after a pure vertical pendulum stroke – and I’d recommend he think about a Two Thumb grip

25”!

what’s the head weight of his putter? I imagine the swing weight is buggered completely.

let us know how it goes.

25”!!!! Thats a tiny putter. I would like to see his posture.

I don’t think swingweight and putters belong in the same sentence (damn, i just did it)

Well guys he has had 2 rounds with his shortened Ping Anser putter and loved it. 5 one putt greens, the rest 2 putts which is unusual for him. Could be just a confidence thing but he swears it is working. Will keep you posted.

If it aint broke, don’t fix it! Wow, a 25”, I’ve never heard of a putter being cut so short, wouldn’t that affect the weighting? I’m only 5’8” and I use a 31” (cut down from 33”). Oh well, each to their own.

Just trust it!
