Ball Advice

Currently use the ProV1x. I always buy and stock up when overseas.

Just noticed recently that I have been getting alot more spin on the ball (especially with my wedges).

It’s getting to the point where the spin is not helping… eg I landed a ball within 30cm of the pin and it spun 5m backwards!

Any ideas which ball I should try? I’ve tried the NXT Tour but it does not seem to fly as far off the driver as the ProV1x.

Callaway iX tour….there is no comparison, they are longer and they spin just enough (not too much like the HX Tour or the ProV)

JMHO

I bought 6 boxes last time I was in the US…love them

And they can handle a full round without looking like they went through a shredder.

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

I found the HX Tour a very ordinary ball for the money, is the iX an improvement??

It’s a much better ball.

The harder I practice the luckier I get. Gary Player.

Time to change!

Callaway ix Tour also. Might be my love for trees, cart paths, walls or any other solid object but mine do scuff up a bit but when they are flying through air they are great. Also found that coming into greens from 100 metres and in and in they stop well and dont head backwards towards me. Went through a HX tour phase and these new Callaways are a great improvement

Bridgestone B330 is a nice ball and at US$35 a dozen a sensational buy.

Try the Expert2…they really are a great ball and since they don’t get the spin that the ProV’s get it might be just what you are after.

try the std V1

I may as well add a comment here – I once used the Prov1 and changed to the Maxfli Noodle Long and Soft or the Noodle Tour if you can get them – just try one and see what you think!

Political Correctness is doctrine fostered by a delusional minority and by the media, which holds forth the proposition it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Tried a VISION ball today. Must say i was very impressed. The ball checked up well on approach shots, was very easy to find, good distance and felt nice off the club. I normally use a prov1 or a HX tour and this ball gets a thumbs up. Well done boz.

Good to see chris, they really are an excellent ball.

No one can really give ball advice to another person. People can tell what they are designed to do, but it differs for everyone.
I play with a ProV.
In our national amateur, i played with a guy off +2 who used Top Flites.
Buy a different ball a round and experiment.
E.g i love the HX touri ball striking wise, but it’s too rocky when putting
The ProV feels nice too putt with.. and i prefer getting the results through shortgame.
Up to you though.

Thanks Chris.

Try the x-pert2 or noodle tour for less spin.

They will feel different and may not suit your swing spin as well as the Pro v1x .

Have fun trying new balls.

There is no perfect ball or golf swing , but some are closer then others.

Don't talk about it, do it , Life is to short.

Just a girlie question – as a learner does it make any difference which ball I use? They all seem to hit the trees quite nicely. Is the difference in the rebound distance or the damage to the ball?

Well....Tiger was taken! And it's Cheetah - not Cheater, thank you very much.

The difference is the damage to the pocket, it’s much better to lose a $4 ball than a $9 one.

So by picking up 36 balls for $25 I did good then. And I’ve only lost 3 in 6 months!

Played with HX tour this weekend, found it to be very long spun plenty, but it sounds like a bloddy hot dot of the putter- into the practice bag for you mr Callaway

"the woods are full of long drivers"

Hi Chucksta, I was using a Pro V1x and getting the same result as you with wedges. Used the HX for a while, nice ball and not so much spin, but still too much. I discovered the Nike One Black which is really long and spins less than the HX. These are great and really suit my game. I have also tried the Vision expert which are really long and off the wedges they just drop and stop – no spinning off the green. I really can’t split the Nike One Black and the Vision Expert, they are both awesome! Good luck :)

Yes Cheetah you did well, but in 5 years or so when you have lost your last one you should be ready for a more expensive ball. : )

What did you buy cheetah?

The noodles that we get in Aus/ NZ are not the same as the noodle balls they get in the states, I want to say they are cheap ASian made balls but almost all balls are made in Asia, but they definately look like thye are lower quality.

They were Dunlop overruns, 30 white and 6 hi viz colours. They even came in a very stylish carry bag for putting practice!

I have the same problem with provx so i tried out the vision arctic white ball and was very impressed with the length and feel. It is not squishy like some people on this forum have indicated. If you want squishy try the maxfly noodle tour it’s an absolute marshmellow!! I was given some noodles long and soft when i was in the USA and they were sensational. Cant find them in oz and also i noticed the wording on the box they came in says Taylormade. So i agree their heaps better than the noodles you buy here in oz.

Another vote here for Cally ix and/or Bridgestone B330s…

both top nuts.
