Good putters?

Thinking of upgrading my putter as it is rather old and has seen better days. An old tommy armour one. Anyone got any suggestions of what are good quality putters out on the market nowadays? Prob looking to pick up a bargain/second hand one from ebay. Do putters have fake copies to look out for too?

how much you wanna spend?

and blade or mallet?

Dan

I am a Ping fan thru and thru and the new Karsten series are well priced and look great at the shops cheapest I seen was $159 but from USA $89 USD plus freight and forex.

I heard that there are a lot of fake Yes! putters on ebay at the moment and I read that there has been a fair bit of buzz in the past months about cheap MacGregor Bobby Grace putters all models.

Also some cheap odyssey’s here and there as well generally old models like white steel 2 balls.

who needs driver when a 3 wood will do???

I have a Yes! Victoria and its great.

Make ebay your friend........Its gold!!!

I know they are not ‘fashionable’, (and out of production!), but I have a Wilson Kirk Currie #1 and reckon it’s great. Good bargain these days as well if you can find them.

The ping anser putters are good also, can be had on ebay for around $70 – $100 on ebay for a good one. I just sold my one on ebay and it was a good putter. My Yes! is really nice though….

I am probably looking at spending $100 max. I do prefer a blade but if the mallet is simple and not too extravegant i can live with it. I do like the look of Yes! putters but they seem to be out of my price range. Ill check out the ping ansers. Any other suggestions?

I got my Yes! for $100, it was a factory second. Can hardly tell the difference. I got it from a guy at my course. Bargain! You will find a nice ping anser for $100 on ebay. They are tried and tested putters.

Bargain alright, great pick up.

For a high handicapper like me, I’ve recently purchased the Nickent Pipe Putter and its really helped my final score.

I picked it up from rockbottom golf for $80AUD delivered.

eek

go the yes putter line

Ive got a Rife two bar mallet that Im really happy with, The thing I like is it has changeable weights and a bendable hosel so Ive got it set up perfectly for me, down side was it only comes in 34 and 35 inch but I extended it an inch and its perfect. It was a little pricey for $250 but its fully fit for me and putts a really nice roll on the ball so if you want to spend a bit more its worth looking at.

What do changeable weights do in a putter? I understand they help change ball flight in woods but how do they affect a putter?

Basically just change the weight, Some prefer lighter some prefer heavier, Initially I thought I liked a heavy putter with out quantifying a weight but when I got the new rife I feel most comfortable with the lightest weights, Some say they prefer heavier on faster greens,
so technically you can change for the course you are playing if so inclined.

some pro shops have older 06 model stuff they havent sold, get an early model something, yes or oddysey might come in under 100$.. How long have Yes! been around for?

I would not recommend ebay, lot of fake stuff on there i’ve heard.

Has anyone tried those “Heavy Putter” putters?

Dan

I have tried the Heavy Putter range and they are great on short putts but terrible if you are a ‘feel’ putter..IMHO

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

Matt, you can’t go wrong with any of the top names…go to a golf shop and have a putt with them all, you’ll find your ‘kin’....I have used a Yes! for ages and have recently gone to the Ping Ug-Le…you just can’t g wrong as there are so many options…one thing I would recommend is to get fitted for the putter and most Golf Shops will at least have that ping putter that is adjustable so you can see your lie and length for the putter.

I vote Rife roll groove technology gets it rolling – end over end

I have a Yes! putter callie, It looks great, it feels great and I think that it has improved my putting. I bought it from ebay but if your looking for a putter for under $100 I dont think that you’ll find a yes! putter for that money, I paid $250 encluding postage from the US for mine and that was a good deal I thought. Putting is the most important part of the game in my view so you should purchase wisely, Dont go for a cheapy.

You cant go wrong with a older two ball blade or new ping. Personnally I think a mallet works well for the higher end handicaps, but you should go with what feels good to you.

Keep an eye on the golf websites, I picked up a Nike Unitizied Tiempo Blade putter for $160 new. They have them in a local shop for $399. And it’s excellent, much better than my old, no brand mallet I used to have.

I also have a Callie Yes putter and love it…
Got mine on E-Bay for about $150.00

I bought a Taylor Made putter a couple of years back for about $300. I absolutely love it. However, what I should have done was…

Go to golf shops and pro shops and try as many putters as possible. At the pro shops you can actually take the putters out onto the practice greens and get a real feel for them, including long putts and possibly uphill/downhill putts.

Eventually settle on the one you want.

Shop around for the best price either online or thru local/regional outlets. Consider eBay.

The most important aspect though, is to try a whole lot of putters – you will know when you find one. It will feel right for you.

I would be reluctant to spend money online for a putter that I haven’t tried…
