Adding rust

Whats the best way to rust up raw wedges? I have mizuno wedges in raw haze and i want to rust them up abit. Light coat of salt water and leave them to sit?

50 years ago, 100 white men chasing one black man across a field was called the Klu Klux Klan. Now is called the PGA Tour"

You want to either submerge it or – if you only want the face rusted, re-apply as soon as it has dried out. Salt water will do, vinegar would be a bit quicker – a bleach/vinegar mix faster still – but the fumes can be a problem.

Give them a week or two of play & wipe them with a damp towel after each shot.

Might sound like a silly question, but why would you want to do that?

Rust causes friction between the clubface and ball, creating a little more spin.
Is that right?

Can also add bumps and lumps that un-square a face that does not help. As the rust is loose I have always seen that as less of a help that a solid grove.

Thanks. I always figured that if you have sufficient grooves on the club face, there would be no need to alter it further.

One thing it is handy for is to reduce mega glare off a wedge when its really sunny. I rather liked the black wedge idea that was popular a few years back. Even though the black wore off those wedges never really got in your eyes.

This arguement often comes up.
We gotta remember though that Tour players hit hundreds of balls per day,how much rust do ya reckon stays on a wedge after a serious bunker session??
Rust is purely to reduce glare…..nothing more.

I have the same wedges..brand new..
too the finish off with vinegar…took abt 30 sec..
dipped in salt water and crusted salt on the face for a darker colour..
love the look of the rust..

grooves r still perfect…

ill upload some pics if u want?
