Who's the most famous golfer you have played golf with?

In Jan of this year one of our members was at Pebble Peach inquiring about a tee time for the next morning. He was informed that 7 am was the only time available and he SHOULD make sure he could play. Arrives the next morning and was informed that he would be playing with Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods and Clint Eastwood. Has the pictures & scorecard with all thir signatures on to prove it. What an unexpected experience. So my question is. Who is the most FAMOUS golfer you have played golf with.

Personally I have been fortunate enough to have played with Peter Thompson, Ian Baker Finch, Bob Shearer, Geoff Ogilvy, Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Aaron Baddeley, Steven Allen – to name a few.

While not golfers as such have also played golf with former PM Gough Whitlam & Malcolm Fraser.

Whose on your list?

P.S – this is not a contest to see who can pee the highest up the wall either. – Just want to know out of curiosity

Played with The Blade!

Caddied for Stuart Appleby at the SA Open for 3 years (won leading amateur the first year). Also caddied for Mike Winfrey twice (incl. a top 10 finish) and David Podlich at the same event. Sorry David, you were the only one to miss the cut!

Anyone ever heard of Mike Winfrey? Anyone know what he’s doing now? Probably a Club Pro in the US somewhere.

Is this Mike Winfrey?

No famous golfers but actually got asked to play with kerry O’Keeffe this saturday at my home club. He is up here for a speaking engagement.

Had to knock it back as the kids have hockey on all day. Would have been a bit of fun.

Have played with Henry Tatana, Rocky Laurie, Russell Mullins, Arthur Beetson ( all former top level rugby league players ) and Peter Hudson (AFL). Henry played off 7 and Rocky off 4.

I heard a great story the other day from a guy I was playing with.

Going back about 5 years, he’s just taken up the game and is on the first tee, by himself, ready to hack one down the first. The local pro comes out and asks if he wouldn’t mind playing with two ladies that were waiting to play. Being a beginner he was a bit worried but said ok and they all teed off together.

On the way round he was hacking, the women killing it but offering encouragement and advice along the way. They finish their game, shake hands and say goodbye. The local pro comes up to the guy and says, “that’ll be a day you’ll never forget will it?” Guy asks why. The pro tells him he’s just played 18 holes with Annika Sorenstam and Karrie Webb!!! The guy didn’t have a clue who they were!

Had a round with Peter Thompson as a kid when first started hittin the little white buggers, didn’t know who he was at the time.

Played in a few Pro Ams in earlier years with Ted Ball, Peter Fowler, Terry Gale, Ozzie Moore, Bob Shearer and Rodger Davis. Not exactly household names now, but all top blokes and good golfers back then.

The key to success is to learn to do something right, then do it right every time. Oh I wish.....

Me none but the old man has played with Sir Garfield Sobers.
He is a member of Dad’s club ,Northern GC in Victoria.

lol!

Me – no-one too special, a few good amateurs is all.

My dad however played in the pro-am in the Irish Open two years in a row. His partners?

First year was Sandy Lyle (this was mid 80s when Lyle was at his peak), second year was some guy named Ballesteros!!!!

Great story about when my dad was playing with Seve. They were playing at Royal Dublin and they get to 18. My dad has 215 or so (late 80s think clubs and balls then) and due to it being hot, dry and bouncy he is thinking long iron. Seve says to him – “No Senor, 3 wood”. Its Seve, so my dad takes his advice even though he thinks its way too much club. He hits it well and it finishes through the green and OB. He asks Seve “What happened there?” Seve replies “When you are pumped up you hit the ball further”, My dad is spitting because he knew that, “Why did you tell me to hit 3 wood then?”. Pure gold from Seve who replies “I didn’t know just how pumped up you were!”

lol!

Caddied a few times for Jack Newton as a whipper-snapper before he turned pro.

Rory McIlroy

I was called through by a guy in-front of me having a social hit and when I looked at him, it was a the dude from the band Powderfinger. I said, lets have a hit together for the last few holes. I asked him for chord progressions for some of their songs and I got them That was cool as I love the band am try to play guitar in my bedroom. It was a blast playing with a guy from a band that is awesome to me!

I played with Ricky Ponting at Cronulla golf club. Such an awesome guy and very encouraging to me! Told me to keep up my cricket aswell. ( He said (( as he would to most kids )) we might need a few of you kids in a couple of years ). Quite a good a keen golfer aswell. Think played off 5.

I haven’t played with ( well sorta did lol ) with John Howard at Avondale Golf club. He is a member there and we had a putting comp on the practice green. He was there to watch a junior tournament. “Little” Johnny Howard played of 12 as he told me.

Also not golf but have played TENNIS with Justin Henin-Hardene and Todd Woodbridge. Also the person that coached ( pretty sure it was ) Australias Davis cup team.

Great day of tennis thanks to my mum winning some Comp.

woohoo my birthday today!! 14 y/o

Wow I had written Johnny off as having no sporting talent whatsoever after watching him playing cricket with the troops. Good on him. Lucky you for playing with Punter too, I would have loved the experience.
