Lots of things we should do in golf and most do the right thing most of the time. One of the worst breaches of etiquette is on Par 3 compulsory call up holes your group hasn’t finished putting when some of the group called up stroll up on the green instead of waiting on the fringes until we vacate it.Bloody poor manners imo.
No matter how bad your game it is always possible to get better or worse |

From my experience of playing in a lot of comps around sydney i would say about 1/3 of golfers are lacking in etiquette

Call up holes are a terrible idea IMO. Always lead to something like this. And if the people being called up don’t understand they think that they are being called through.

Etiquette? G’day all, my first post so I thought I would make it a lengthy one so what the heck! Call up holes? Turning up on time for a comp? “Bob” is not here yet, can you hold our group back? “Martha” is not playing today as she had done her back so I am filling in for her and we are swapping tee times. That is a good one. What competition are we playing today? Hello, what time are you playing today? No-shows? People who want to have a holiday chatting to you when you are trying to call a field or fix it whilst other members are lined up shaking their head. That is also a good one. “I was playing on the 5th hole and a kid ran out from the bushes and stole my golf ball and club that I left next to the bunker” Well, I am sorry about that but what would you like me to do? You are 73 years of age afterall. It happens when kids are on school holidays? I would like to make a booking for next Sunday for a social game. “Yes, you can and the first available tee-time is at 11.30am. All times before that have been filled due to comp, social clubs and social players.” Okay, so I cannot get on before 11.30am and why not? As I have mentioned to you, you just cannot, sorry to wreck your weekend. So there is no chance of playing before 11.30am? I would like to play golf today. I am sorry but you cannot get on the course until after 2pm due to a corporate golf day. “I am a member and I cannot get on the course?” Yes, that is correct, if we did not have corporate days, the club would make no cash to improve the course so what is the problem? (I don’t say that) For example, you make $7000 on a Saturday with a members comp and a few social players in the arvo and you have a corporate golf day and make $15.000. Amazing intelligence from certain people. Social Players: One has to love them as they are the bread and butter. Do you think they will fix divots, ball marks on the greens, rake bunkers and give a toss about the group behind them? Get 4 guys with one buggy and you can be sure that out of view, there will be 4 guys using the one buggy. So, etiquette from members and social players can be funny at times and there are people who get really political about it, one has to laugh. Love my job, it is fun, cool and an eye opener at times. Work at a golf course and you will know what I mean. Service is paramount as is being a social worker at times trying to figure out each persons motive and thinking. Work that out and you are doing well.

Welcome to the forum Nevil. That,s quite a post for the first one. Can,t see that I disagree although you missed a couple that I can think of. Best one for me when I was captain of the club playing my second shot on the par 5 11th. Member wanders overe from the 16th tee & wants a ruling because his ball has hit a tree & gone in the water & he & his marker cannot agree on where he may take a drop. They were having quite a heated discussion. Needlerss so say after cooling down the arguement & giving a ruling I hit my ball out of bounds & continued to play rubbish for therest of the round. Seems for some members , if you work in the pro-shop or are on the committee you should be prepared to suspend your ( not important ) round of golf to make sure that thier round runs smoothly. Ahh , You have to love this game:-)
A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all.

What gets me the most is players Teeing off on a par 3, with a driver, whilst you are still putting out… 160 meters away. Sure, they only hit it 50 meters along the ground, that when you hear that sound you duck for cover.
