Very annoyed

Twice in two weeks have i been stuck in bunkers where previous players havent raked properly. Today my ball ran into the bunker and some tool hadnt raked it properly. My ball fell into the old hole and gave me what was basically a downhill plug (impossible to hit). This is twice in 2 weeks this has happened. How hard is it to rake it properly?

Don’t hit it into bunkers and it won’t annoy you anymore! ;-)
Feel it, execute it, live with it. |

Easy for you to say – no bunkers on the driving range. :)
I may well have the worst short game in Australia. |
|
Jack Nicklaus courses have rakes that have missing pronges, so the bunker, is infact a hazard regardless of how ever much you rake it.. With regards to aussie, i agree with him. The hole is 370m long.. How hard is it to lay up and hit a longer club and just take a par?

very true AB but sometimes you either have to put it in the bunker or have a very risky fairway shot near the water where you cant just drop it..

No doubt mate, I was just playing with Chris… Often best bail out is in a bunker if you are good from the sand… Larry Long… The is apparently grass inside the driving range too! ;-)
Feel it, execute it, live with it. |

How about people who do rake the bunker back to front & then walk out of the bunker & drop the rake just inside the front edge. That way the next ball that runs in there hits the rake & stays there presenting the golfer with an almost impossible shot.
A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all.

that should be a free 2 club drop from the landing point of the ball.. im not sure wether you can drop on the fairway next to the bunker or not but it would be good..

Pom, some clubs have local rules stating you place the rake back in the bunker, that is the case at my club anyhow. I normally throw it into the middle of the bunker with the head of the rake towards the green.
1-L, it is all there my friend. |

I have no problem with that sort of ruling Mr C but if you drop the rake in a bunker at least leave it where it is not going to make a difficult shot even harder. Where to leave the rake has been discussed at great length on this forum & others & both options have merit But players should always be considerate of how thier actions can affect other players on the course.

Haha well now that that is behind up, what happens if you ask a competitor what club they just used? 8-)

Its not so easy to stay out of bunkers at Newcastle GC. If you have played there you will know what i mean. They are everywhere and the terrain pushes you into them.

first time i played at the National GC in Victoria i couldn’t find a rake. I thought “thats not very professional, i thought this was a good course” Later i found that they have little boxes in the ground next to the bunker and when you lift the lid there is the rake, buried vertically in the ground in this neat little holder. very impressive set up. anyone else seen that sort of device??

No but they seem like a good idea. Be a good spot for snakes!

the first time i played The Cut they had those. I have played it twice since and actually have not been in bunkers to check, which is rare for me! I don’t recall anyone in my group commenting on them, which would lead me to believe that people simply were not using them. Personally, I throught they were fantastic.

We have about a thousand roos on my course and they just love jumping through the bunkers. You get used to bashing out of terrible lies. Learn to hit the ball with a VERY closed face which brings out lots of sand and the ball just about every time.
|
|
Often find no rakes or not enough in bunkers ,someone must pinch them. Most difficulty I have with bunkers is when the ball is at the back on a slope and where sand is shallow and varies from one hole to another.Confidence will get us out of most bunkers imo.
No matter how bad your game it is always possible to get better or worse |
|
I played today and ended up in a bunker on the last hole the foot prints went in past the rake then back out to the left of the rake…clowns :-(

|
Have scene buggy wheel marks in bunker to divot then out the other side again.

No the snakes would battle to get into these things. They had a lid that closed down tight over them. Great thing….If you knew they were there.

dont really have to rake
If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ? |
|
No, lots of pro’s dig their feet in real deep when they take their stance, and might then smooth those two holes out after their shot. So that’s what you might see on camera but i can assue you that their caddie will be in their raking the bunker.
|
|
Yeah thats a reason why pros have a caddy, so they dont have to clean up divots and bunker etc.
|
|
If I am not plugged, or sitting on rocks, in water in a bunker, I expect to be sitting on raked sand….no foot marks or animal marks nothing else except smooth raked sand. If there are roos, then there SHOULD be a local rule allowing a drop from them…

i once heard an old scottish guy ranting and raving about how bunkers were originally natural hazards, made by sheep sleeping out of the wind and that raking them should be banned and it ruined the game .. blah blah b;ah … that nowadays they are not hazards as the golfing forefathers intended.. all i thought was ’ thank god for rakes’
