Anyone had the procedure done? My 21st is coming up and mum offered to get it for me as a pressie. Would be lovely to once in my life fall asleep while watching tv and not worry about crushing my glasses! Or worry about making sure my contacts are clean and so on and so forth… Just curious about how safe it is and any other info is appreciated.

Getting it done this Friday, I’ll tell you on Monday.

Sweet as, how much is it costing you and where are you getting it done if you don;t mind me asking. Also what kind of a procedure is it leading up to the actual lasering of the eye? Best of luck with the op!

That’s if you can still see the keyboard. Only jokin Mr C. Mate of mine had this done a couple of months ago and he reckons it is one of the best investments he has ever made.

Lol Dave. Well mum was never going to buy me a motorbike and they are the two big ticket items on my grocery list so I reckon I may still go ahead with it and get the bike down the track. :-)

Same goes for one of my mates. He could basically see straight away. Amazing technology.

Only thing I remember he had to do leading up was to wear glasses and not contacts. Afterwards he had some goggles stuck to his face. He also reckons it was one of the best investments he made.

Had Lasik surgery about 7 years ago.
THE BEST DAMNED THING I EVER DID….
Had to wear clear protective goggles for the rest of the first day, then every night for 3 nights so i didnt rub/irritate the eyes while sleeping.
Could see clearer through the goggles than when wearing contacts, and was almost painless during recovery.
One warning though- you will be extremely light sensitive just after the surgery so make plans for someone to pick u up from where u are having the proceedure.
When i had mine done my sister picked me up but as we walked outside the building i coudnt see anything, it was just too too glarey/bright. and she kept walking not realising i wasnt following….lol
she had to come back and lead me by the hand….and no, couldnt wear sunnies because of the clear goggles…lol

Thanks for the warning. So far it all seems very encouraging.

it’s pretty safe n low risk procedure
but like all surgeries …...still a risk (albeit very small)

common things occur commonly
like minor discomfort
dryness

adjustments

personally have not gone thru
but read n heard from people

good luck n rest well…hope u’ll see the hole bigger !!

Lol would be nice. I would just love to be able to be able to watch a ball after its first bounce, I always lose it there even with contacts or glasses on .

My brother and a few mates have had it done. Worked great for all of them. At the moment i think around $1500 or so per eye as a guide. Some places have it closer to the 1000 mark. From what i know, you need to have a steady prescription for a period of about 2 – 3 years prior to getting it done. I really want it done yet, but my eyes are still worsening so im still a little while off. I hate wearing glasses at work though, not very practical in my job at times.

My wife had this done about four years ago and she says it just the BEST!! She was very uncomfortable for a few hours after the op but next day.. no problems, now she can go scuba dining with me and actually see!!

Besty of luck!!

mr C had mine done more than 8 years ago…best thing ever, no side effects at all, had to redo one of them a couple of weeks later, stung a little second time, but first time is not even uncomfortable, no hassles at all, I could see very well the next day, but it improves. To date, have not had an issue and my sight is Very good better than 20 20.

Good luck!

I had mine done 3 years ago, from what I can tell the success or level of satisfaction depends on whether you are short sighted or suffer astigmatysm (irregular shaped cornea). I have had one eye tweaked twice and one once after the initial surgery, I am generaly happy, however I do feel that at times my vision is not as good as corrected vision with glasses.(I think with getting glasses fitted you can tell the optician what is best, rather than the laser doing a job that you can’t have a say in) I do need to wear reading glasses as my near vision is not as good as it was (age related) at the moment these are just the chemist type reading glasses.
At the end of the day it is a life changing experience, and while I am not 100% satisfied, I can see very well, and not having to wear glasses all the time is great. I wore glasses from 12 years old through to 45 years old, and still go to take my glasses off at times when going to bed or getting into bed.

Good luck!

Mate of mine had it done 2 years ago and as with the rest he is happy as, I’ll be getting it done within the next couple of years and if it is only 1000-1500 per eye then that will be sooner. Good luck mate.

Thanks frank.

The MP32s are here. The results are promising!

Where are the $1500 places?

The two I’ve seen are: $3,250 Per Eye – Vision Eye Institute
$2,900 Per Eye – Sydney Laser & Vision Center

Saw the $1500 places advertising a couple of months ago, can’t remember where though it was in Sydney.

I Had mine done 5 years ago, and could not begin to tell you how well it went.

Want to improve your game? then spend it on the eye surgery before you buy another set of clubs. Wanna See that drive land, or that wedge back up on the green? Chrystal clear and in total ( not just through a lens) and that’s what its like.

If you’re keen, I Had mine done in the Bum Ran Gard International Hospital in Bangkok…saved the price of the airfare in the cost difference alone.. and the quality of the place was amazing… like a 5 star hotel, not like the shitholes we call hospitals out here. Doctor that did mine was a Thai trained in Canada, and he spoke like one too.

All up best thing I have ever done..helped with golf helped with work, helped with swimming and a heap of other things..too Easy a Decision AFAIC..

Mr C, I’m sure you may have already done this but google Laser Eye Surgery and a whole raft of options open up for you. The Sydney Institute of Eye Surgery currently has a cost of $1250 per eye. There is also another mob at Parramatta and Castle Hill, both close to you.

Thanks U8er, I will probably stay in Australia for the surgery.

Dave, yea google was my first course of action. Typing in the Sydney Institute of Eye Surgery gets me to the vision eye institute. Anyways I will float them an email and find out.

Mr C,

Had mine done 15 years ago when it was still quite new and still have 20/20 vision today. I still recall not being able to read the clock on the wall in the surgery then seeing it clearly an hour later.

No side effects what so ever.

Best money ever spent and I would of spent twice as much since on contact lenses and presciption glasses if I didnt get it done.

Thanks GottaStart, I am going for an appointment on friday so I shall know more about where I stand then.

Mate I hate to be the nay sayer….

My wife had hers done this year and has since developed vitreous floaters…..

These are “spots” on your vision – like clouds. I’m sticking to contacts – check it out on the web. Some say she probably would have gotten them anyway but the lasic brought it forward by 10 years.

You can get the spots fixed but it means you’ll definitely need cataract surery later in life. I’d check it out pretty carefully as you’re a young fella and contacts aren’t that much of a hassle.

By the way the amount you’re on this forum dude it’s prbably the computer screen thats screwing with your eyesight!!!

Cheers AJM

I shopped around and like most things, you get what you pay for. I’d suggest paying a little more and making sure that you go to one of the more highly regarded surgeons – I don’t want to risk my eye sight for a couple of grand. What’s better? Guaranteed follow up as part of the price, re-work done for no extra cost and a well published and known as an expert in their field.

Also, don’t forget you can claim back 20%

“you get back 20 per cent of your net expenses over the $1500 threshold, but there is no upper limit to the amount that you can claim.”

Better than a poke in the eye :-)

Can’t wait to play golf in the rain and be able to see without fogging up. We just need some rain in Melbourne.

would laser vision correction help an astigmatism?
