Well that 18th hole wasn’t set up for Tiger Woods by any chance? The USGA is a joke and should hang their heads….

how did the pick the playoff hole? “Ok, so which hole is Tiger most likely to birdie and Rocco won’t fancy at all?” Well done Rocco for almost blowing the whole thing up in the USGA’s face.

How do you work that one out mate? It’s a pretty bold statement considering there are 17 other holes and the playoff was won on the 7th The pin was on the right of the 18th today If you look at the hole Best access to this pin IMHO is on the left side of the fairway which favours Rocco’s draw. From the left hand side of the fairway it opens up for him to hit his draw again through the opening on the right. Rocco played 18: birdie, birdie, par, par with a driving distance avg of 283.38 Tiger played 18: par, par, eagle, birdie with an average driving distance of 320.88 On a hole that measures 572, isn’t that always going to be advantage Tiger when he is 50 yards ahead??

Correct, it was not setup for Tiger Woods. A mate of mine played that course earlier this year, and guess what… the distance was the same back then. What bugs me a little is the final hole (7th). You watch your competitor bang one out and you know he’s getting on in regulation. You know you have to get on in 2 as well. So take the fairway trap out of play and hit up to it. It’s 200y in from there, even if you’re playing a long iron or something else. But for crying out loud… DO NOT HIT IT INTO THE FAIRWAY TRAP. Shame. He did well.

the playoff hole shapes left to right, all week long Woods has struggled to hit his driver left to right but could get it in the fairway when going left to right. The rock could not hit it left to right if the US Open was on the line (and sadly it was). Ok, he was hurt (he should be tested for drugs) and it was awesome to win, but I would love for the underdog to have won.

I agree with PeterS that it was an unforced error on Rocco’s behalf, I do also agree with Styles as to How did they choose the sudden death holes? As far as conspiracy that the USGA set up the win for Tiger? I don’t agree, he took his chances when they were presented to him. Rocco had a putt on 18 both on Sun and today to win the US Open, he did not take the opportunity either time. Tiger did. I think Rocco played exceptionally well and is a great ambassador for golf with his happy go lucky attitude.

Its just a usual Cliff manley comment. Cliff you are such a tosser. We all just have to face it, no one can be as good as you cliff. Keep practicing on them 250m 3 irons and youl be able to challenge Tiger on the 18th next year.

The USGA also clearly made the greens tougher for Rocco yesterday which is why he missed those four or five putts inside 10 feet on the way home. It has nothing to do with the players. Seriously… do you just crave attention?

Yeah i watched most of it at work last night (quiet for a few hours luckily). I thought it was a great battle by both players. Good to see Tiger bounce back after injury. Top effort by Rocco. That effort of his on the 3rd? (par 3) was magic. That was very close to a hole in 1!

Come on AB, even the commentatas said it was set up for Tiger, it was the easiest pin placement to score an eagle off. Easy on a par 5 equals easy for Tiger. I don’t often agree with the Yank comments but this time I do….

The USGA wanted Tiger to come home in a blaze of glory if it was still close at 18, and if he was behind they wanted him to have the best chance of catching up…. which is exactly what happened.

Isn’t Tiger going to have an advantage on any par 5 at scoring eagle? Especially against someone who avgs 50 yards less? Not a real big call to have to make by a commentator… Did he make eagle? One hole does not make a tournament

Yeah… It had nothing to do with Mediate missing his last 2 fairways & both 20 footers…..give me a break Cliff.

The commentators stressed the fact that all the pin placements were selected well before the tournament had begun. They weren’t to know who was going to be in the playoff, or if there was to be a playoff at all. I watched the front 9 (and my heart stopped for a second with Rocco’s tee shot on the third, what a beauty!). Also from what I gathered, alot of the pin placements were in the easier spots, not just that hole. I found it amazing how long they took to line up their putts, they mighta got 18 in in the time it took to play 9! But I guess I can understand with that much on the line, and noone playing behind, how you could get away with it.

Mr C is spot on the money – pin placements/sudden death holes are all planned in advance. Anyone who thinks that the USGA was setting up the course for a Tiger win must be high from all the tall poppies they have been cutting down.
|
|
If they wanted to favor Tiger they would of had the Sudden Death Play off Hole on the 18th but not to favor any players it was moved to the 7th a shorter hole to favor no one and im pretty sure that it would of been set way before the Competition started.

I take it Cliffmanley didnt want Tiger to win !!!!

some of the comments here is so laughable

the 7th is rated as the hardest hole…maybe they went off that (I am just going off my Torrey Pines scorecard)

As Rocco says in the post-interview… Tiger rolls those big putts home when it counts (twice on 18), and if he (The Rock) could have made the one on 7, they’d still be playing. The guy is just a freaking good putter – and that’s the difference.
|
|
You got to hand it to Rocco though, he looked like he was having fun and enjoying the walk and he put on a great show… Rocco won my respect but I was also cheering for Tiger..
who needs driver when a 3 wood will do??? |
|
Seemed as the match wore on Rocco was winning over some of the Tiger crowd too.
