Club Near Penrith NSW with Sunday Am Comp

Due to family commitments, I prefer to play my weekly game on sunday morning. I am looking for recommendations for a course within say 20 minutes of Penrith that has a sunday morning comp. Any suggestions??

I’m assuming you are looking for an Open Day Sunday comp. If that is the case, it is fairly slim pickings, although I understand Ashlar has recently made its Sunday comp an open day.

Otherwise, Fox Hills and Cumberland are both just within your 20 minute range. I don’t know about the earliest tee-off times though.

Glenmore’s Sunday Open Day comp has a 10.00am start (or at least it used to).

leura west of penrith about 30-40 minutes has an open sunday comp im about 90% sure

Doesn’t have to be an open day – I would be happy to join a reasonable quality course. I currently travel 45 minutes each way to play but would like to switch clubs to a closer course. Fox Hills and Cumberland are good suggestions. thanks

Penrith has an open comp on Sundays which starts at 11am (I think). One of the better courses in the areas for length, variety and general condition. Visitors comp fee is around $20 which is fair also.

Wallacia is a playable, if not overly challenging, track which will let you on basically anytime. New Ross Watson holes are the coming along though the rest of the works appear to have stalled.

If you want to venture up the mountains you’ll get a game at any of them on a Sunday with few being crowded. My pick would be Wenty Falls though thats 45 mins from Penrith.

Penrith GC is a nice course. If Socks sees this thread he can tell you more about it as he is a member there. Fox Hills is a good club too, great practice facilities and the course is in good nick. I am a member there so I am a little biased. :-) I also heard from one in our foresome on saturday that Ashlar had been closed, but I dunno if that is just a rumor.

Yep, Cumberland has an open on Sundays…

My C, how’s Foxies these days? haven’t played there in ages, was a member there years ago, is Jamie still here?

Come over to Cumberland 1 Sunday for a bash.

Richmond is also an option, not sure what time you can get on there on a Sunday, I’ve played there early before.

Stefan

Yea Jamie is still there. I have only been a member since about Feb last year but from what I heard it had undergone a recent transformation. There is a pretty schmik clubhouse now which I think they are extending and a new 10th (which has only just recently come in). Also the club is owned by by the Seven Hills RSL now (I am pretty sure).

Yeah I saw Glen a while ago, told me of the reno of the 10th, they were planning big changes to the course however Sevo RSL has renigged which is a shame.

I’ll have to get there for a hit one day it’s been years, I drive past it every time to Cumberland and it’s looking great….....that damn 5th with the OB on the right.

Yeh Richmond has a sunday comp, usually social groups in morning and comp between 10 and 12, good track good walk im a member so im biased

Yea that damn 5th used to be my favourite hole for scoring… Its turned into a bit of a driving range for me now the amount I seem to hit OOB!

Richmond is a great track, I love it.

Thanks for all the comments. I will phone Cumberland and check if they have 8am tee times on sunday. As I said, my goal is to be finished by about 1pm so I can attend to the family in the afternoon but sounds like I have a few choices. Great.

Your spoilt for choice
Penrith is a good course but very long.Prices are good and it has great practice facilities and one of the best club houses in the area.

Richmond is the nicest course IMO but will sting your for $25
Company is usually good, I’ve met some fantastic people there.
But watch out for a chap called Graeme and his airborne scotty cameron.

Windsor is an interesting course in good condition plus they have the added bonus of running an A B and C grade comp on Sundays.
Prices are good and locals are friendly.

Fox Hill is fun and has a great club house great practice facilities great food all at reasonable prices and of course they have Mr C, what more could you ask for : )

Ha you are too kind :) Chances are if you play with Graeme it will seem like you are missing a player in your foresome from memory he tended to go from the tees, to the trees then to the green, but I guess I can’t talk the way I played that day! ;-)

Its all about havin fun Mr.C.
How you hitting them lately?? Me, Im continuing swinging it like I am holding a wet rag! No consistancy just wound it all the way back to hitting off 11 after being off 9 in March. Really struggling with keeping my rhythm slow but my hands comin through a hundred miles – an – hour, which results in my famous block & no power!!!!!!! AAAARRRGGGHHH!

Other extracts from Graemes book of golf excuses include.
the sun is too high in the sky.
the greens need mowed.
i’m used to playing on better grass than this.
I think the tees are further back today than they were yesterday
The greenskeeper did a poor job cutting that one.
The ball was in a divot.
I need new grips.
It was in between clubs.

and on and on

Hitting them very inconsistently (yes, lets put it that way). I have played in 8 comps this year and added .8 to my handicap…But at this stage I am just glad you can only go back .1 8) Luckily I am still having fun which as you rightly point out is the main part.

Its my fault im dragging you both down.
im always so nervous standing over the ball, thinking about 30 things and worrying about getting hit by one of Graemes clubs after yet another Tanty ;)
