Guru, nice one, I shall have to get back out to play it again. Highly underrated course.

I only played it once. It feel into the “lasting impressions’ category.

With money behind it, it could be a world class track and as a 9 holer it was just a terrific real lay out. There have always been rumours that it will get made out to be 18 at some point in time. Probably the back 9 is where the water desalination plant will go just to spoil it all:)

another 9 hole`s isn`t as far of as you thing …guru

They are doing a lot of sub-division work there so it will become 18 for sure.

About 6 years ago I was trying to buy a block on the course but they were still miles from there. Postage stamp blocks were quite reasonable then. More like Penny Blacks now.

Yes, they retained along the lake on the 8th hole, they would be excellent blocks

The Cut is the worst for the general public, and heard some pros saying the same.

The condition of the course is great, the layout hurts. Just when you think you striped one down the middle only to not know where it went when you get down there.

Haven’t played the Cut as yet – will have to try to get out there for some punishment.

sun city is a magnificent course . all be it im a golfers a,hole i found it to be a impressive walk

I heard sun city is having trouble keeping its members also.

As were talking W.A, courses , was shown a score card today from Burswood golf course in perth. This card has some interesting local rules on the back.Only got a quick look at the card but a couple of rules that stuck in my mind were
Lateral water hazard. Drop at point of entry
Ball in bunker. You may lift the ball , smooth the sand with the palm of your hand & then replace the ball before playing a shot.
Love to see the rule book that one comes from.

A bad day on the golf course is better than no golf at all. :(

just back from my first golf trip to mandurah last week
played the cut meadow springs and secret harbour – Kennedy bay was shut!!
i’d rate them
1. cut – had 36 points !!
2. secret harbour
3. meadow springs

the cut is tight and was really cruel to some of our playersbut it really makes you plan your game. plus its just beautiful.. everyone had a good game at secret harbour and thought is a great layout
meadow springs .. to be fair rained pretty hard the front nine so that may have dampened my enthusiansm for the course

cheers

if you have not played the new Karrinyup then it is all rather a moot point. Not accessible to the public of course, but the changes are astounding. Won’t suggest it is the best course in town, but for anything to be better it would have to be bloody good

still have to hit a high draw for nearly every tee shot?

Still a benefit, but no longer essential, some holes have been straightedned and all have had trees removed from inside the doglegs so that a fade off the left trees is now an option, or in some cases new bunkering now warrants a faded tee shot to the right side of the fairway.

the 13th was the other big hook hole and that has been straightened

I still get a woody for Hartfield

as per criteria in the golf course guide:
Best aesthetics – Joondalup
Most natural – Kennedy Bay (even more so, now it returns to bush)
Best course design – The Cut

(I’ve only walked Karrinyup so can’t rate)
Binningup is most enjoyable/relaxing
Vines is most playable (Marsh design with wide fairways)

The Cut is the worst for the general public, and heard some pros saying the same.

The condition of the course is great, the layout hurts. Just when you think you striped one down the middle only to not know where it went when you get down there.

EVERY local player that I have spoken to disliked The Cut. Pro’s and Amateurs alike. The only people that I have heard praise the place were visitors from outside WA.
I haven’t played it myself. I am sure I will eventually but a course that punishes good shots doesn’t attract me.

My personal favourite at the moment would have to be Cottesloe.

so in short we are saying that we have no answer to the question.

Kennedy bay now seems to be a moot point as it is closed
Binningup is only 9 holes
Joondalup is OTT and tends to polarise people, either love it or hate it.
The Cut looks nice but is unplayable
The Vines is a Graham Marsh course – enough said, and is hotter than the fires of hell in summer time
Cottesloe is a shocker, Graham Marsh again
Araluen has no water and drops dead in summer – probably the next course to close
Karrinyup requries a letter from the queen to get a game
Secret Harbour is being destroyed by land development
Mt Lawley would have been nice if they had taken their redesign seriously rather than just tinkering
Meadow Springs is already a housing developement and has faded somewhat over the years
Albany is too far and covered in Kikuyu
WA is cute but nothing much
Sun City is in the middle of nowhere and a bit dull

I jest to an extent, but clearly there is no winner.

If Binningup was 18 holes it’d be a no-brainer

I love the back nine at The Cut. Yeh it’s tough, but it is simply astounding!

I can not believe that Kennedy Bay has closed! Reading this thread, I was almost sick to know that one of the greatest courses in the country is no longer.

As for Araluen…well it’s on its way back. I played there last Friday, and although still a long weay from it’s best, it is far from its worst! Let me tell you, looking at some of the fairways and greens, it worst looked pretty bad! Anyway, they have a new fleet of golf carts and they have water and a pump to puch it around the course. They have been approved to put a resort up there as well. Michael Coate was out there the other day checking out what they can do to fix it up. A lot of work over Winter and Spring and it could be back to it’s absolute best, an=d when it is at it’s best, I don’t reckon it can beaten in WA!

And as for Hartfield…What a little gem!
