No-Backswing Swing

I have just seen a copy of Golf Magazine in Oct 2007 which describes a swing that doesn’t have a back swing. They called it the No-Backswing Swing. You take a normal stance, and then rotate back to a positon where the left arm is parallel. This is the starting point. To initiate the rest of the swing you “pump” your arms up about a foot and rotate around a bit more, and then swing down through the ball.

The claims are that this eliminates “70% of swing errors” and that it can produce higher clubspeed, ball speed, accuracy, distance etc.

I have used this technique as a training aid (one of the remedial actions recommended in Leadbetter’s golf analysis software and thought that it might actually work as a golf swing in itself.

I would be interested to see what other people thought of this, and whether anybody actually uses it.

I have tried it as a training drill. I find it hard to stay in posture and keep the swing dynamic when doing it though.

In my mind good for training certain actions, not so much as a day to day swing.

down and out…did ya get that?

I missed out on that issue, are you able to scan and post the article on the forum?

Last month I played with a visitor from Qld who had a swing similar to what you described and was very accurate with his irons that day.

Here is a link to the article

No-Backswin Swing

Is it me, or is that just HITTING?
put your own terms into it, but as mechanics go, you are just hitting as opposed to swinging.

With a HIT your backswing isn’t as long as it is for a swing anyway.

I think Guru or Dart would agree, or I am sure they will correct me if I am a long way off base.

Not new, just explained different.
