Sanding divots in the rough

What is the protocal for sanding divots in the rough? I play on a sandbelt course, and the rough is usually unkept grass and I assumed it was deemed normal not to sand divots in the rough. However somone had a go at me on the weekend about it…

It would be good if it could be clarified.

HIt a snapper or a mega cut, bad luck or was it due to a rank swing?

Was playing from the wrong fairways rough and going over some trees. Hence the need to hit down on the big time :)

You always repair your divots in the rough by applying sand or neatly replacing the turf. You must always think of the next person, hitting from the rough is a penalty and should not be made harder by playing from an unrepaired lie.
