ebay and paypal

looks like ebay is putting on another squeeze on punters selling gear by forcing the use of paypal as an option for payment..as a seller all you get is another dip in your pocket of 2.5 % of the fee ( including the postage if you are paid through Paypal) for the privilege. and of course ebay owns paypal… so what is this? It smells of monopoly trading.. next step from them no doubt is excluding all other forms of payment bar theirs..

Yes paypal is going to be the only payment method soon. It is a fast effective method though.

The ACCC have launched an inquiry into this following a heap of complaints.

I complained….......its bullying using their monopoly pure and simple.. and at the end of the day you as a seller are forced to pay their fees..

Having been ripped off before on ebay, I’ll only buy through paypal now. At least you get some sense of security.

Their revenue growth has slowed and this is just a way of gouging more money from the sellers which they dress up as improving security for online purchases.

Have a look at the forums on ebay Au to see what the sellers think of it.

May be www.oztion.com.au is a good alternative.

The exclusion by Ebay of the seller having the ability to onpass the % to the buyer as a premium is what annoys me.. think about how you pay for a good many items on a daily basis from small scale business, and a many will now charge you a transaction fee if you use a credit card, it is perfectly legal in this sense, so why exclude it by Ebay?

the answer, Simple..revenue..all those 2.5% premiums on top of your lisitng final value fee and gallery fees add up to a nice tidy sum.

In 8 years of use by ebay, 200 plus purchases, I’ve been ripped once, back in 2002. It happened thru paypal, and quite frankly , if it hadn’t been for AMEX purchase protection, and their ability to reverse the transaction immediately, I wouldn’t have had any luck…

from Paypals’ perspective, everything regarding the claim had to be in triplicate and it had to be sent to Seattle USA – snail mail, registered and insured – before they would look at the claim..t’was about 2 months before I heard anything more from them..

Don’t kid yourselves that Paypal is there for the consumers protection, its not…its there for the parent company eBay to screw another charge out of their customers, the sellers..

As a buyer, eBay has for years and years played the line that they are only a facilitator of a forum that allows a buyer and a seller of goods to trade. They quite openly and very vocaly have tried for many years to absolve themselves from any implied warranty and or liability with regard to the supply, quality and purhcase conditions of items through their website. As an Ebay buyer they made it quite clear time after time that you had conducted business with a Seller, not eBay, You had to take steps to sort any issues out with the seller prior to ebay becoming involved..

Why the change now? if you read the banner ads that pop up now you’d be led to believe that they really do have an interest in protecting purchasers..what a load of codswallop.

u only get your money back if the seller has money in their account. if they withdraw it after u pay them its too bad. paypal is crap. i agree with most. its double dipping of fees.

i’ll tell you why. because ebay are thieiving bast—ds. they dont give a sh-t about their customers. only profit matters to them. look at all the fake gear they allow to get sold. they only withdraw the listing after the item sells so they can’t take their cut. if they withdraw it before they wouldnt get paid. so you tell me whats the reason for this. buyer protection hahaha or double dipping monopoly grabbing profit driven organisaton.

FWIW, ebay are saying they will freeze the funds in the seller’s paypal account for 21 days to stop dodgy sellers doing a bolt with the $$$$.

That’s nice unless you are a good seller with 100% feedback who will have to wait 3 weeks to actually get paid while paying for shipping costs out of your own pocket.
