Going to the Gold Coast

Hi Guys,

I am going to the gold coast in the first week of June for a conference for 5 days and was wondering what courses you recommend to play.
I have never played golf on the Gold Coast.

thanks in advance

Pete

Robina Woods. Has an excellent 18th hole.

Hope island if you want spurge!

Dont forget to check out ‘Teetimes Online’ in the right side bar and Discount Fees up top. Most Gold Coast courses are listed there and cheaper rates if you can narrow down the day/s you want to play.

The key to success is to learn to do something right, then do it right every time. Oh I wish.....

Hope Island would be my pick, also try Lakelands it’s a nice course as well.
If you ring the courses direct sometimes they have good deals going for early morning or late afternoon tee off times.
I was on holidays at Christmas time and got to play Lakelands and Royal Pines for $60 each.

Depends on your budget and whether you have transport? Many of the courses are very over-rated (although most are in excellent condition) and virtually all of them are overpriced. Robina Woods would be my pick followed by Hope Island and Glades. If you don’t want to spend that kind of money, head south and play Tweed Cooangatta or Murwillimbah. Enjoy.

If you don’t want to spend much time travelling, the following courses are all good to excellent and are reasonably close: Robina Woods, Colonial, Lakelands & The Glades. There are plenty of “deals” available, best give each course a call…Colonial & Robina Woods are “related”.

last time i was there played robina woods , royal pines and palm meadows- robina woods was the best IMHO

Robina Woods is a bit of a mickey mouse course up and down hills in my opinion. Playing Hope Island is the place to go as it will test every shot you may have in your bag, especially on a windy day.

Thanks guys,

I will have a car so transportation wont be a problem.
Robina Woods, The Glades, Royal Pines all look great.
also might consider Brookwater.

didn’t play hope.. unfortunately
i liked robina due to the tightness …some of those resort course holes on the G/coast are like football fields a with a tee box and a green at each end – boring

every one raves about hope so it will be first up next time

Good call to check out Brookwater seeing as you have a car – it puts all of the Gold Coast courses to shame.

Brook water is a decent drive from the gold coast. I would allow about 1.5 – 2 hours if you’re not familiar with the way.

Thats alot of time in the car when you could be on a course! =)

wow, if its 1.5 – 2 hrs drive, i would probably give it a miss, even though i do have sat nav to assist.
I would rather spend that 1.5 – 2 hours on a course.
I am now looking at hope island too.

thanks for all the tips guys.

Pete

psoul1, where are you going to be based?

If you’re on the northern side of the Gold Coast (Hope Island, Coomera etc), then Brookwater is only an hour away.

Glades, Robina Woods and Hope Island would be my picks if money was not an issue.

Murwillumbah is a great little course and excellent value for under $20

I agree with GGM Murwillumbah is a great course for a town of that size, the best course in the northern rivers, it really does make Gold Coast golf look rather flat & boring.

Will be based at the Marriot Resort. Not sure if that is Nth or Sth.

Pete

Pete,
The Marriott is in central Surfers Paradise. So Nth to Hope Island will be around 45 mins depending on the traffic. Murwillimbah will be around the same time South, even more affected by traffic.
Both worth the trip if you have time.
The resort courses mentioned are all good, ( except Palm Meadows, going off and Royal Pines, flat & boring ).
Most of the resort courses are really only a challenge for a good golfer from the back markers, that’s how they set up. Robina Woods will test your “straights” out.
Tweed Heads ( river course ) and Burleigh are also worth a look.
Good luck deciding. my picks, in order FWIW, Hope Island, Robina Woods, The Glades & Lakelands.

I’d steer clear of Robina Woods, they have really let that place go. It’s no where near the course it used to be. You’ll be dissapointed you spent the money. Spend a little more and play the better courses. Even Santuary Cove The Pines or Gainsborough Greens is much better nowadays than it used to be. Enjoy your trip.
