Tattoos

Is there a rule or will it sway a membership application if someone has visible tattoos on them? I’ve been away from golf for a few years and since had work done on both arms one of which is covered to my wrist. They’re not offensive designs but every now and then I get a few looks when I’m out.

Mate, it shouldn’t matter. Just wear neat golfing attire when you are putting your application in, or even a long sleeve shirt if it gives you a little more confidence. Most clubs are more interested in getting members now than whether or not they have tatts.

Cheers

i’d be absolutely shocked if a membership was knocked back due to some ink.

I’m thinking the same way but you never know. I’m proud of them and wouldn’t hide them.

i think the outcome depends on where you want to join. my club has a lot of older guys who have old school tatts, but its a really laid back place. if you go to a more expensive (read: somewhat snobby members) it may be a different story

what does it say on your arm?

Mum?
Dad?

I have to admit a certain prejudice when it comes to inked up folk – sorry.

It has my son’s name on one arm and a very colourful dragon on the other.
Where does the prejudice come from?

i would say if it sways there decision on your application the club is not worth joining . i have some 20+ year old tats and it does not make me any different a person to most other average joes . we are all individuals an as such should be treated that way .as mentioned before they should be more interested in gaining membership numbers.

Tell them it’s something to read while you’re waiting for the old bastards to have their 4th shot out of a bunker. 8-p

Eeeasy Hybrid – I’m one of those “old bastards” & I’ve never had 4 in a bunker – tatts don’t bother me either – I choose not to have any, but I respect your right to have them & a club shouldn’t judge a person just because he has them as well

Golf balls are like eggs - they're white, sold by the dozen & you need to buy fresh ones every week!

I guess its because growing up I only ever saw them on ‘rough’ types and British army soldiers.

Nowadays I am much more tolerant but still have my opinion of someone influenced by the sight of a tat.

The club I’m frequent only allows you to have ink on your twig’n’berries. Any place else and you aren’t allowed on the course, period. They enforce it too!

mate if by chance you’re near the goldie or coomera area come and join helensvale. you’ll be welcome anytime and its a great friendly, laidback club. very very challenging but all the people involved are great. lot of friendly older guys who are happy to call a spade a f*#king shovel!

most clubs these days are really struggling for cash up here in newcastle anyway, so i don’t think it’s the colour of your ink it’s the colour of your money
