Hi all,
Was a bit annoyed this morning when i realised that the US golf tournament – the world golf championship was not on fox and is on ch 10 in HD. I don’t have a HD receiver. Just wanted to know are the majors going to be on ch 10 HD as well? I know a HD receiver is probably only going to cost 100 – 150 but wanted to know if the majors etc will only be on HD? It’s not long till the masters, so wanted to be prepared, can’t miss that.

Unfortunately for the people who do not have HD will miss the majors as all 4 of them will be on Ten HD.
I suggest go and get yourself a receiver.

I understand your disappointment, however the broadcast is much better than the usual fox showing. I beleive anything that Channel 10 has will be on their HDTV channel.

The digital feed is great – invest in a set top box…

No good having hd tv if you live outside the 5 major capital cities,Channel 10 regonial affiliate SC10 do not transmit the HD Channel.

Good news psoul1, according to this month’s golf australia magazine, the masters will be simulcast on 10HD and channel 10, and I believe this is the same for all 4 majors. Only the WGC (and after this week there is only one more for the year…) will be shown exclusively on 10HD.

And for those who have Foxtel and were annoyed that the CA Championship wasn’t on Fox Sports, the good news is that the Foxtel Digital package will soon start broadcasting 10HD, much like they broadcast ABC2.

I’ll be interested to see if the P.G.A. is broadcast on free to air as they haven’t done it for a couple of years.

If cost isn’t an issue though I’d go out and get a set top box (or a whole new tv if cost really isn’t the issue); that way you are guaranteed.

Make sure you get a HD as SD doesn’t receive 10HD and is a waste of money I picked up my box at Harvey Norman for $145

I presume it is the so-called anti-siphoning laws that has given Ch10 the ability to prevent Fox from showing the current World Championship tournament and therefore prevent country people from seeing it. Wasn’t the rationale for this law that people who couldn’t afford pay TV would still get access to major sporting events on free-to-air? ( – and not of course to ensure a captive audience for the commercial channels to bombard long suffering viewers with inane and repetitive advertisements). Surely Ch10 should be called to account for this abuse of this government privilege by the relevant Minister.

Country people can’t see it anyway. The rural partner to Ten, Southern Cross, is not set up to show the whole of Ten’s HD programming and won’t be until mid-year.

So if Ch 10 don’t want to run it on their standard channel, why not allow Fox to show it?

Exactly.

I know for the Aussie Rules here in Brisbane, Channel 7 don’t show the friday night game until very late (despite promising they would show it live to Brisbane in order to win the rights from the AFL, but I’ll save that rant for another time) so Foxtel is given permission to show these games live on their 518 channel (the channel usually reserved for pay-per-view).

Surely they could do the same for you country folk who don’t have a choice…

I’ve just looked up the progress scores in this event. Why would people want to watch it anyway with just a couple of Australians duelling with some American bloke who thinks he can win 6 tournaments in a row????? There are probably a couple of other blokes in contention who can play a bit but country folk or those who can’t afford the technology probably wouldn’t be interested in those either.

There was a very good little HD demo as such after the close/suspension of play which was awesome. Would rather see that replace the normal viewing on HD channel which isnt actually shown in HD.

Does this mean that even if I buy an HD box it won’t do me any good living in Cairns?

I might as well give up Austar if they’re not gonna show any of the majors,etc.

Anyone know why 10 show’s it on a half hour or hour delay. Better not do that for the majors.
