Hello all, The 2 main criteria are a reasonable price (<1000 /> The ones i’m most interested in at the moment are:
Any comments/ thoughts would be appreciated.

Ryde/Parramatta and Muirfield are probably in the distance range but definitely outside your bank account preference. (Ryde $5,000 Muirfield $2000+ joining fee and around the $1500+ per annum membership) Doubt you are going to get anything in the area for the price range you are seeking. Lane Cove isn’t that far away and definitely in the price range at about the $650 full membership mark.(No joining fee either) Down side …. Only a nine hole Par 64. Depending on your travelling desires, their is also Chatswood, (about $2,500 all up fees) Massey Park, $500 joining fee and as it is a council course you pay green fees and comp fees. Gordon, just under a grand all up as well.
The key to success is to learn to do something right, then do it right every time. Oh I wish..... |

if you like hills, there is always Asquith as well. cheap ish joining and well maintained when i used to play it a lot.
who needs driver when a 3 wood will do??? |
Thanks for that. To clarify (something happened to my original post?), im after a course with a driving range (don’t need balls provided though), and am happy to pay a bit of an entrance fee on top of the 1000/y. The driving range is proving to be the most difficult, from what i can tell Pennant Hills is the only one nearby (that includes free use with membership…)

Whoa….. you’ll be paying a whole lot more than a ‘bit of an entrance fee’ at Pennant Hills. You’re talking big bucks to join this ‘private’ number. Getting nominated isn’t all that easy either.

PD Agree with davego – believe PH will be more pricey than what you think Oatlands is a nice enough track and I’d avoid Nth Ryde like the plague Ashlar might be worth a look ?

Goatlands would not worry, short and shit Ryde-Parramatta….full of players that take 6 hours for a round and talk a different language. Pennant Hills….well a freeway stuffed up that layout. Muirfield, well nothing much, short and shit. There are no real options north of the Bridge, unless you are prepared to travel to the East or Northern Beaches, then you get some decent courses like St Michael’s, Bonnie Doon, Elanora, Long Reef and the like. That’s Sydney, over crowded and under serviced by great golf layouts around the Hill’s District. Bit like the public transport services for the area as well.

Ive been a member at long reef for about 3yrs and i cannot speak highly enough of the place. $2.5k joining and $2k per year. the course is always in excellent condition. no problems getting in and it does have a driving range, although its only 180m long.

Agree. Long Reef top layout, but 2.5K joining for a semi-public course. That’s a bit steep. St Michael’s is better value and one of the best Sydney layouts off their blue tees. Played there a month ago and it was absolutely mint. I was a public player and it cost just over $50 for a round. Worth every cent. Would join that club if I had to live in Sydney.

Scrotum, think st micks is about $5k joining fee
Gee I’m Melbourne based now after leaving Sydney 4 years ago, was not aware their joining fee was that now. 5K? Well I’ll still consider that reasonable. Top layout, but certainly makes Long Reef great value. What’s NSW going for at the moment?
NSW…..... Re-morgage the house, sell the wife, kids, cat n dog, go & get another 3 part time jobs & in 3 years you should have the joining fee!!!!
Mydogownsme, what course are you a member of?
Richmond. Like I said not overly long, not private but in good nick & in my price range $750 a year.

Just beware of the dunny at the 7th

Most expensive expensive course in Sydney is The Australian.
NSW is approx $11k joining fee and about $2700 per year. 12yr waiting list though, so if you put in an application to join now who knows how much it will be in 2020?

Scrotum Disagree with your notion that Long Reef is a “top” layout. It’s average at best. Mona Vale is on about a par with it in the area and I’ll bet a darn lot cheaper too.
Long reef is consistently rated in the top 50 public courses in aust, mona vale isnt. they both have similar joining and yearly fees.
Mona Vale is in great nick at the moment. Similar fees to Long Reef, $2.5k joining fee, close to $2k annual fees. Great vibe, nice members and a decent 19th.

I live is the blacktown area and am looking for a club to join. Richmond sounds good. Is there any other clubs around that could be recomended. need to limit expense to around 1000 a year, and would be interested in sunday comps. Do any off the clubs offer pay by the month…
CJB, depends how much you want to spend? I know Richmond offer pay by the month no probs. Penrith, Windsor & Richmond all are good value at under $1K. Lynwood country club opens next year at Pitt town n sounds good. I dont know how much though? Riverside Oaks is still round. Bit ordinary for the money though. I heard they are struggling in the cabbage department & only have minimal staff. I wasnt impressed with the passo growing through the greens, bunkers unkept etc. Such a shame its a great layout & was awsome in its prime.
