Hip flexer injury - injured it on Sunday

I have torn (strained would be more accurate)

a hip flexer muscle, its quite painful

played last 6 holes without a hip turn or minimal hip turn

saw phsyio this morrning, im out for 2 weeks. Well I could always work on my putting…but that would be boring

anways never hurt anypart of my body playing golf bar a blister

How did you manage that….going after one, or just happened.

I have had shoulder trouble due to wear and tear from golf, but nothing as major as a strained muscle.

down and out…did ya get that?

nah just hit knock down 8 iron from about 110…and felt this twinge..tried to walk it off…..was painful..couldnt turn hips at all…was hitting driver by flipping the hands to release it straight

might have been weran tear issue…..been playing 3 times a week…but never had it…physio has given me a program to follow for 2 weeks

hopefully back playing then!

My sympathies Dave. Good to hear the physio has given you a program to follow.

Golfs been fairly kind to me injury wise over the years once I realised Jack Nicklaus leg drives and Ben Hogan hip spins just gave me sore hips and big scores :P

However, the one thing I can’t shake off is a slight pain on the inside of my right knee. It’s probably caused by keeping the flex in my right knee. I can easily do a quad stretch with the leg leg but can’t do one with the right leg. If I don’t play for a few weeks the stiffness in the knee eases. I can’t say I’ve ever heard anyone else complain about this?

Why did you play the last 6 holes with minimal or no hip turn? Just walk off the course Dave_1? If your previous injury from golf was a blister, this tells you that you are not working hard enough at your game.

Cheers,

walk of the course…I played footy for 8 years and played with busted fingers and swollen ankles and a whole assortment of injuires…a hip flexer injury wasnt going to stop me finsihing the round…..they dont tackle in golf so i figured it would just be the same at the end…..I was at the other end of the course so i would have had to walk back anyways

a funny man once said golf would be a whole lot more interesting if tackling was allowed though :)

try a course (up to 10 to 14 days) of anti inflammatory meds like indocid, voltaren naprosyn
IF you are not allerigc
no Reflux or heartburn
no gastric problems
no other serious contra-indications
if in doubt see doc for a prescription

Physical therapy
Acute (within 24 to 72 hours) us PRICE
Protection
relative rest
ice
compression and elevation

then physio with warm up , cool down
incl gentle stretching
strengthening
alternative icing and warm packs
and/or therapeutic ultrasound

work w physio on this
to slowly reintegrate back to sports/golf related activities

If perisistant and not improving after few weeks consider med opinion on appropriate imaging like ultrasound or MRI etc

If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ?
Square is Good ? Sure is, if it's the right stick !
Good Golf is Fun plus the Great Outdoors...
In the Bag: Clubs and Balls. My Handicap is Bad Golf.

hmmm…me prefers YOGA, stretching, swim…..massage..time heals most muscle injuires…you then restrngthen with some bike riding and lite leg weights

I take the Dela Larma approach

Anti Inflamatories..they destroy your kidneys..ask NBA baskeballer Alonzo Mourning

I had a Winged scapula, caused by hitting tooo many balls.
Kind of comes and goes, dont think i’ll ever be rid of it.
These things happen i guess.

yeah repatative injuires are common in many sports but golf especially

in footy you run different directions kick bith feet….tennis backhand forehand serve and volley are all different

In golf every shot from a 50 meter picth to a drive is the same in terms of the body use…It uses the same muscles and tendons over and over…..
