Brisbane membership

I’m evaluating my current club membership plans for next year, can anyone suggest a club(s) to join in Brisbane that satisfies the following criteria:- 1. Joining fee/annual subs costs less than the price of arm/leg/major organ My current club suffers because of 3 & 5 and I suspect 7 because the course always seems to be full of slow playing visitors/corporate days when the comp has finished. Also – what’s it like to be a member at somewhere like North Lakes – are you restricted at weekends by corporate days etc. or is it generally ok to get a game?

Best of luck on that search, not an easy to find- if you find one let us Brisbanites know. I think if you want points 2-7 you will need a re-evaluate point 1 and part with some cash. Only reasonably priced one that I know of is Wynnum. Always in good condition but very short and not very interesting.

Yeah, Not that many clubs (that are cheap) were the members are more important that socials. Mabye on Saturday, but thats it.

I’m looking at joining Keperra, I hear it’s a pretty nice track. Could be pretty expensive but I think you can split the $1000 joining fee to be paid over four years. At the moment they can have a 3 month trial membership for $240.00 which they will subtract from the 12 month membership fee if you end up joining (so three months of free golf).

Yeah, Played Keppera and its the one im trying to join. Its the best course (Of its rate) in Brisbane- Plus 27 holes, you cant beat that. Just gotta convince Dad its worth it – For him atleast- I could join any decent track for $2/300, just he cant :-p

Keppera is a great track. Another good course is Redcliffe, a bit easier on the pocket and is always in top condition regardless of weather conditions. Worth a look also is Caboolture, running a full membership deal for $500.00 inc noms till end of September

Wantima is cheap, easy to get on, and the greens are ok, good enjoyable games even in comp, so if you are really serious, not the place for you. Always in reasonable condition is Redcliffe, long way away though, cant really socialise after your game with your group. Lot of corporate stuff at keperra, cannot get on all of the time either, do they still have a waiting period to play in the saturday comps after you join. All depends what you are after though, Good Luck, Nathan

I know it up a notch on the expense side but I was wondeirng if North Lakes is worth it – see my other thread. Are there any North Lakes members on here?

Chrisal, At the risk of upsetting Admin again, I’ll put forward Windaroo Lakes.
My only criticisms would be the condition of the bunkers and some of the tee boxes, however they do appear to be fixing these issues.

Good layout in good nick year round your kidding your self right..

Fti, I agree with your comments regarding the bunkers, but was unaware of previous failed attempts to rectify the situation. Greens are slower than what I am use to at Colonial, but I wouldn’t describe them as bumpy. I have always enjoyed the layout of the course, and consider it far more interesting and challenging (particularly when the wind blows off the river) than courses such as Oxley, Redland Bay and Carbrook that cost more to join and often require your presence at the clubhouse to make bookings for Saturday comps. As for the staff, well people often react to the way others treat them.

Thanks for all the tips I can’t belive there are no North Lakes Members on here! does anyone know a member there or is there no such thing?

GGM, i do agre with you in saying windy has a great lay out, one of the best lay outs in australia i belive. just apitty it is run by a bunch of clowns, im sure once AVP is finished deveolping all the houses around it, they will sell it and hopefully some one that has a clue is brought it to run it.

Fti, I am guessing you have some experience with the management of the club. I think I took your original comment out of context. I thought that when you called it a “farm” you were refering to the course rather than the golf club. Get the bunkers right, and I think you be hard pressed to find a better track on the southside. Having never been a member I can’t comment on the other stuff. My one criticism of management would be the decision (obviously made some time ago and probably due to insurance issues) to make the island on Snake Gully OOB. Ruined what was the best risk / reward hole I have ever seen. You are now left with no option but to hit long irons at a green that was only ever designed to receive short iron shots.
