Found a good Pro

Guys,

I have never had great experiences with golf teachers but have recently met a man who is trying to establish an off course teaching and club fitting business, servicing Ipswich and western Brisbane suburbs.

I had my first lesson with this guy today and it was fantastic. Really makes the most of video technology, and showed a great interest in developing my game. Has given me drills to work, and is focused on a ground up approach (we only went as far as grip, setup and a little on take-away today).

Anyway, I am not sure about the rules or accepted practice on plugging someone, so I won’t mention any names or anything.

As I am from the same area as you I am keen to find out. I only return home occasionally but if I have time it would certainly be on teh cards.
Not sure if you are able to post name etc.
Admin???

Unless it’s your buisness I’m sure you’re able to mention names. We’ve had a lot of “Help me find a teacher” threads on here before with names mentioned.

Anyone selling Titleist 735CM ???

Haha, what a coincidence! I was just about to start a thread requesting recommendations for great Golf Coaches in the west Brisbane area and then I stumbled across this one. As I live in Ashgrove, I would love to get in contact with this guy to inquire about some coaching in the coming weeks. Looks as though it’s safe to post his details but if not, please forward details to my email. timarnold2452@hotmail.com

Feel free to recommend any other coaches you’ve had experience with?

Yeah I am not involved in his business or anything. Just keen to spread the word, because I have had poor experiences with most club pro’s over the years.

His name is Kieran. He moved to Australia from Northern Ireland this year. He is a PGA professional and is also an expert club fitter. He is based in Ipswich, working from his home (lessons and club fitting done with video and launch monitor technologies), but may also teach at a driving range if you were more comfotable there. I am not exactly sure that he would travel to Brisbane to do lessons, maybe if it was worth his while (ie. take his gear with him).

please email me at jarrod07au AT hotmail.com for contact details.

P.S. I apologise to admin if this is not acceptable

Jarrod07au….

I am interested in what poor experiences you have had from club pro’s over the years.

Firstly, I have not had a lot of experience with club pro’s. I am only 21, but I have been playing golf since I was 14 and have had lessons with a few different pro’s in that time.

Poor experiences have included: general lack of interest in being a ‘coach’ rather than someone that just gives a lesson, no use of technology, poor advice (example – you shouldn’t take divots) and it never seemed like they were building towards anything – like, working on takeaway or roation or whatever, and giving you drills to practice, then following it up by checking it the next lesson and then working on the next stage.

In saying that, I understand that this definately does NOT apply to all club pro’s. Further to this, I am not endorsing off course guys over club pro’s, it just so happens that I have had this positive experience with an off course coach.

Thats some fair comments there jarrod07au….. It is like anything in life, if you are onto a good thing, stick with it.

I dont understand why people love using technology? I remember Hank Haney saying that he had only ever put tigers swing on video twice in the entire time that they had worked together. Yet all you 20 handicapers want to see your swing?

A1984…....mate, there is nothing wrong with using technology. ie. video. Putting a 20 handicapper on a video is great. It helps them get a focus on their swing if anything.

I am not off 20.

I think Video technology is great. I thought I had an athletic stance until my mate video’d my swing whilst we were having a social round. I found out through this that I was slumped over too much and without the assistance of a coach fixed the stance and improved my driving.
Having a coach tell you what you are doing wrong is obviously the best way to learn however if he can show you on video it makes it easier to understand (certainly not limited to 20 handicappers).

I am not off 20.

Anyone selling Titleist 735CM ???

u sound more like a single marker (maybe low singles) ??

If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ?
Square is Good ? Sure is, if it's the right stick !

I have found using video one of the best tools there is for fixing and keeping a reasonable swing. As they say “seeing is beleiving”. And I’m not off 20 either. One of my mates who is a scratch player has his swing videoed regularly.

Tiger probably sees his swing so often on TV that there’s no need to video it again, but to be honest what he does or doesn’t do doesn’t help my swing at all. It all boils down to horses for courses….don’t like video well don’t use it!
