Discussion for Draper shoots 61 at Australian 4 Ball

this shows somebody like him who some have labelled him ’ an ordinary golfer’ can still shine !

after a failed dance trip !!

If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ?
Square is Good ? Sure is, if it's the right stick !

Good for him ; I hope he goes on to win it . Just by the way, you’ll see some of Australia’s greatest burglars/sandbaggers at work in this event . Remember seeing an 18 marker (left hander?) who seemed to outplay his professional partner down the home stretch. Maybe he was just having a really good day!.

Guys

I’m still out on Draper’s capacity to play top level professional golf.

Sure he’s talented, but there are plenty of others who fail to get the same level of exposure and attention that Draper achieves (yes even TV shows), yet are competing at a level far above him and are in a different class..eg. Leishman, Nitties, Aron Price, Bonholme, Porter, the list is endless.

I’m yet to rate Draper as a professional golfer, and fail to see why he should get any exposure, simply for a single round that he’s shot basically, out of his arse.

Yes a fine round granted, but so what, when Draper does similar to what Ewan Porter did at Moonah, then that will be news.

You don’t find it newsworthy that he was a world class tennis player and is now coming good as a pro golfer?

When he wins an event other than a Von Nida tournament, then the transition from a world class tennis player to professional golfer is complete.

Draper seems to play on his fame as a tennis player to get media attention for his golf, that’s all.

I simply raise the issue as there are plenty of others with more talent and ability than Draper, who are overlooked by the media.

I recall Ivan Lendl gave it a crack…never made it. As for Draper, time will tell, but he’s certainly taking his time.

If he makes it isnt the question we need to be asking, just making to this point has been an amazing, when a person has played proffessional sport like he has theres a lot of things that would have been ingrained in him as a tennis player that would be hard to overcome from a technical aspect..BUT

on the flip side though….he would know all about work ethic, determination, qulaity pratice, mental strength, application…some of those qulaities you simply cant teach somone untill they have grasped it themsleves and done it, he would already have those in bucket fulls I would suggest

Hers a guy that wouldnt need the money, yet hes out ther playing lower events to qualify for bigger events….if anything hes to be admired and congratulated for having a crack against the odds

that to me is what makes Australians great….they dont take no for an answer because someone might say “oh he probably wont make it”

it should ve an inspiration to us all that we can simply go an do something esle if we put our head and heart into it

so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead

I’m not sure if Draper would hunt media attention given he’s been in the media spotlight for so long.

I play both tennis and golf and to me, golf is the harder of the two (but there’s sure to be debate on that).

Draper’s game to me seems still to have a long way to go and I tend to follow the line that his game remains at a level below a top-flight golf professional, irrespective of his 61 today.

Ok imagine what skill it takes to be doctor….suddenly a doctor wakes up one day nad says Im going to be vet because I like animals better

the skills, knowledge and work ethic is very transferable…..

sure he may not be a top line golfer but geez hes better than most us so who are we to bag him for trying

I reckon either way its a great story he can tell his kids….look kids I played in a US open semi final tennis…then a few years later I won a tournament in golf in NSW after ditching the raquets….his grand kids would go yeah right pops!!

Its a pretty dam fine effort if you ask me…hes a hiding to nothing but I dont think hes doing it to for money or fame hes doing as a personal challenge to himslef and good on him I say

so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead

He is to be admired.

Some people seem to think he is rich. I am sure that he is on a good wicket and is well off financially, with the book sales and all, but I dont think he is a rich as some people are making out. His tennis career wasn’t exactly lucrative.

But yeah, I am sure he will commit himself to become the best golfer he can be, and will definately forefil his potential. I would love to see him finish top 10 in a major Aussie event. Just to get the knockers off his back

There’s a fine line between a critique and been negative or knocking a sports star.

Draper stepped up to the plate to try and be a professional golfer. Doing that he’s automatically in the spotlight.

Critique goes with the territory of professional sport.

Sports stars are not protected species and so any comment about Draper’s game and were it’s at, should be looked in such a perspective and not as a personal attack on him.

Kill critique of any sporting professionals and you’ll kill sport, although Rugby League players are doing a fine job of just killing their own sport with their behavior, irrespective of any critique.

Sure admire his determination, but also take into account where his games at and compare it to others.

Very good post advocate.
