Any1 drove so hard that the Shaft snapped in 2 or more ?

Haven’t done that for a driver yet,
but has had for my other old steel shafted clubs, probably becos they were too rusty….

If Tiger plays Lefty will he be that good ?
Square is Good ? Sure is, if it's the right stick !

I had that happen in my old long irons. Top Flite with graphite irons. Was told that i shouldn’t have been using graphite shafts for my swing speed. Or something like that anyway.

could be just graphite fatigue ?

Ummm….was told once but for the life of me I can’t remember now.

was trying out new drivers on a range one day and the sales gut bought out a cobra driver and he didnt have a demo so he taped it up and i snapped it in my backswing right in the middle you should of seen the look on his face when i looked at shaft it was regular at the time i was using xxx penley john daly in my driver good news was he got a full replacement at no charge

How can a shaft break in 2 places whilst in the process of hitting a golf shot KYC? A shaft will snap at the hosel if anything no matter what the quality of the shaft is at times.
If your shafts were rusty, I reckon you were not taking care of your clubs in the first place? A rusty shaft ain’t a cause for a breakage as rust is on the surface. If you have rust inside your shafts, you have played too much golf in the rain. A breakage in a steel shaft is either from contact prior with a tree or a small knick in the shaft from whatever.
Graphite fatigue?
Yes, these types of shafts do become weak if you allow your golf bag dividers to leave marks on them. If you have had a graphite shaft put in a club, many guys have no idea or care about how to do it properly and snapping a shaft can happen. Many drivers that come out of the factories are assembled “not the best” and this is from your crap to your high end equipment.

Early graphite shafts used to snap at the hosel because the top of the hosel was not bevelled at the correct angle, or not at all. The pressure created at impact on that point created a snap or a split, both irons and woods. Players thought it was themselves that caused the problem, but it was a quality problem. Quite often the problem would not occur for several years. Most companies would cover the cost of the problem if pressured, particularly if it happened more than once.

A bad day at golf is still a lot better than a good day at work.

amazing how can a (new) shaft crack during the backswing?
is not like during the transition or downswing I can imagine when the power lag can put a load of stress on the shaft? But for the Backswing …how ?

seen a head fly off thats all was funny…it went further than the ball,,,wasnt me hitting it though

so John (Daly) how did you make a 14?....well i missed the putt ior a 13 dickhead

it was a dud shaft as i hit a couple of other regulars and they didnt break

I think you’d struggle breaking any new graphite shaft now. When Trek very first brought out their carbon fibre mtn bikes, I broke a frame [hey, new technology]. Couldn’t do that now if I tried – and I’ve got a few more kilos to help!

Breaking a steel shaft though? Must have been rusty as hell, or really old (and yes, fatigued). All material will weaken eventually if subjected to the same consistent punishment. Just try bending a paperclip back and fourth a few dozen times. Same principle.

I have snapped about 5 shafts while hitting the ball. I had an old set of arnold palmer irons with sensicore shafts. I dont know if they are still made the same way but the shafts had a plastic rod running up the inside of the shaft with foam wrapped around it to dampen vibration.

This worked fine but the foam also absorbed moisture which rusted the shafts from the inside out and my irons slowly started breaking (mainly just below the grip) one by one.

Since I was only a kid, I had saved up my hard earned cash for about a year and a half just to get the irons and couldnt afford to get them reshafted so I just had to keep playing with what was left!

As you could understand I am now paranoid about getting my clubs wet!!

I’ve seen several instances of lightweight graphite driver shafts breaking at two points simultaneously. Usually it’s under the grip & about 12” above the hosel. Strange but true…

Home on The Range

Playing in China, with so many fake clubs this is quite common. I plaid with a guy who had just bought a set just before we started and by the end he had broken 5 clubs.

By the 9th we were taking cover each shot he plaied because we didn’t know where the bit would go. Turned out to be an amusing round of golf.

another reason not to get fakes !!

I snapped my driver shaft the other week. The shaft snapped off in the head of the club. It snapped of right at impact with the ball, the head went about 100m and the ball went about 220m.
