All the US PGA Tour has to do is to take one or two of its ‘World Golf’ events and play them in China. They will have the corporate support and the best players. Lousy golf courses but whats new for the PGA?

Interesting take – sub-prime crisis = US recession = lower sponsorships = struggling PGA Tour. I think some sponsors were already starting to raise question marks as to value for money – you have to pony up a lot of cash to get your name on an event – which comes and goes in one weekend. Some events have changed sponsors recently I think…? A few questions in return. How has the US Tour gone in previous US recessions? There was a minor one not far back. And to what extent does the TV $$ insulate the sport from business down turns esp. in the post-Tiger era. (You must curse when he chooses not to show up at your tournament…) I guess the bottom line is that the US Tour is the pinnacle in terms of competitiveness, it has more of the World’s top ranked golfers playing even if they can’t win the Ryder Cup. And the Yanks host three majors. That probably maintains long-term interest more than just the cash alone. It would take a long time for that perception to change.
Reverse every natural instinct you have and do just the opposite of what you are inclined to do and you will probably come very close to having a perfect golf swing. - BEN HOGAN, POWER GOLF |

75% of the worlds golf courses are being built in ASIA If you keep looking back all you will see is the past the future has nothing to do with it but it is inevitable within 10 to 20 years the worlds biggest tournies will be asian and there is a fair bet three majors will not be played on US soil.

So worland, what you are saying is that they dig up Augusta and transport it to Asia somewhere, also do it for the British Open courses. A fair bet that 3 majors will not be played in the USA? I agree that Asia is booming in many areas and yes golf as well. Not many people living in Asian countries can afford to play golf let alone buy a bag of rice to feed the family. Golf in Asia is for the rich at this time residing in those countries or for golfing tourists who can afford it. Golf in the USA/Europe/Australia is accessable to most people and relatively affordable. If in 10-20 years time I cannot watch the Masters at Augusta…well that will be a defining moment in the history of golf.

ya just too much corruption present to get things going big

I don’t consider Augusta to be a major now or the uspga they both play to limited field events.. As for your assertion that people don’t have the money, 20 years ago people could not afford new cars when they were 20 either in our own country. Now have a look…

Golf was for the rich in the USA and Europe and to the main still is for those with deeper pockets to play and be club members. Asia is no different. Asia’s booming economies will show a shift in global political power if they can sustain it and China in particular will push the ‘posh’ end of town to show the world that they can mix it with the West. Their tennis is growing to a point that it has the Aussie Open people talking about losing our Major in that sport. Time will tell for all sports.
